Hamas: Protecting Gazans Not Our Job

Hamas is the elected government of the Gaza Strip.

Elected, of course, means something different in Gaza than in the West, but even given that there is no real dispute that it has asserted its role as the governing body of the region, and has been recognized as such by the international community de facto if not de jure. The US has designated Hamas as a terrorist organization, as have many other countries, but also recognizes that Hamas controls the territory.

Most of us tend to think that the primary role of a government is to provide basic services, enforce the law, provide order, and protect citizens. Even tyrannical governments do most of these things, although they often pick and choose who gets the benefits of protection.

Hamas doesn’t serve this purpose in Gaza. It acts as a warlord gang, not as a government. It is essentially ISIS or al Qaeda with the trappings of a state wrapped around it.

The Gaza Strip is now and has been for decades a hellhole. While many people see this as the fault of Israel, the fact is that this is exactly how Hamas wants it to be. Billions of dollars of aid flow into Gaza, Israel has provided many basic services such as water and electricity, and Hamas skims all the cream off the top and pours the money into military power and terrorism.

As you can see from the MEMRI clip, Hamas may claim to be the governing body of Gaza, but it accepts none of the responsibility for actually looking out for Gazans. It is the UN and, of course, Israel who they hold responsible for the well-being of Gazans. Not that they care–Gazans are simply a human resource to be expended in their war against the Jews.

Westerners are having a difficult time wrapping their heads around the fact that Hamas is, like all Islamist organizations (not Muslim, but Islamist), a death cult. Killing or converting non-Muslims is their only goal, and the deaths of fellow Muslims are a necessary price to pay in order to glorify their perverted notion of God’s will.

Governments can’t be organized around such ideologies, at least not for long. And, as we have seen with Hamas, it has utterly failed as a governing body. It can only persist in power through the massive infusion of outside aid.

That aid is dutifully provided by its allies, and by the useful idiots in the international community who have accepted the ridiculous assertion that since Hamas is unable and unwilling to act as a protector of its citizens, Israel must step up to do so, while simultaneously accepting Hamas’ incessant attacks on its own citizens.

It shouldn’t surprise us that an Islamist death cult exists–we have seen them acting out for decades now. And most of us aren’t surprised.

But put a cultist in a suit, hand them a microphone and a TV platform, and suddenly they become respectable enough to have the world intelligentsia rally around them.

Is there any other group in the world who commit rape, murder, torture, and kidnapping and then be paraded on TV as a moral authority?

Hamas is demanding that Israel protect Gazans and also demand that the government of Israel forego its responsibility to protect Israelis.

Many people apparently agree. Hundreds of thousands of people marched in support of Hamas, including American students. This is, of course, utter insanity, but then again we live in a world where “Queers for Palestine” exists.
