How dare you reach out to people?!

There’s been a lot of talk about Blacks warming up to Trump in recent months.

I will believe it when I see it. Republicans making significant electoral inroads with Blacks is similar to the Republican delusion that Minnesota is in political reach in presidential politics. It is a nice thought, but a fantasy.

Still, the best evidence that there could be something to this theory is that Leftist Black intellectuals are now worried about the possibility. I don’t know if they are responding to the same anecdata (anecdotes masquerading as data) or whether they have a legitimate reason to be worried about a surge of support for Republicans by Black voters.

We’ll see.

For those of you unfamiliar, The Root is one of those racist Leftist rags that purports to speak to and for Blacks. Antjuan Seawright expresses his outrage that Republicans are making an effort to reach out to Blacks and is warning his Black Male readers to beware of Whites bearing gifts.

It’s typical scare tactics and worse. As you can see from the photo Root chose to use for the piece the Left desperately wants Blacks to be perpetually angry at not getting ahead, rather than experience the horrors of actually getting ahead as successful members of a society that embraces them as Americans living the Dream.

See, from the Black voter surges of 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2019 to the 2020 returns where Black voters made the difference in key states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia, the political math is undeniable: when Black voters turnout, Democrats win.

Of course, we don’t have to look any further than 2016 when Donald Trump pulled the age-old Divide and Conquer tactic by targeting 3.5 million Black voters in key swing states and managed not only to drive down Black turnout, but convince 14% of Black men to actually vote for him. So he won.

It’s like the old expression says: “You might not win with us. But you’ll certainly lose without us.”

Seawright begins and ends with the basic premise that Black votes are owned by Democrats. Hence the use of the term “steal,” as if Blacks may not be labor slaves anymore, but should remain on a political plantation. He literally used the word “steal.”

Now if you accept the Democrat talking points, Blacks–who have been voting for Democrats for 70+ years–are no better off than decades ago. Clearly all those promises Democrats have made to Blacks have been pretty pointless–and that is the argument of the Democrats! Republicans will point out that while Blacks are better off economically and in other ways, their community and families are actually worse off due to government failure.

Look at the Democrat-run schools, in which Blacks are being educationally crushed. From that one fact alone so much of the dysfunction can be explained. The simple remedy of school choice would transform prospects for Blacks in America.

You see, the MAGA lords know that if they can divide Black voters, the most consequential and most loyal voting bloc in America, the sky’s the limit.

But there’s another unforeseen consequence to their strategy. By targeting Black men for a potential 14-16% of our vote, they’ve created their own worst nightmare and transformed ours into one of if not the most important swing vote in the nation.

By trying to alienate us, they’ve actually unwittinglyempowered [sic] us. Now they’re afraid we’ll use that power against them.

The argument, as you can see, makes zero sense on any level. Not only have Democrats betrayed Black voters by tossing them economic bones such as affirmative action while destroying educational prospects for their children, but the argument is logically incoherent as well. It boils down to “Republicans want to steal Black votes, but Republicans are alienating Blacks because they are terrified of getting them.”

Huh? What? Which is it? Do Republicans want Black votes or not?

At base the argument is this: Republicans shouldn’t reach out to Black voters at all.

Why, exactly? That too is easy to understand: if Blacks hear from Republicans directly instead of being mediated by the real racists like Shipwright they might figure out that Republicans are offering a pretty simple deal: join us in achieving the American Dream.

Republicans don’t want to “own” the Black vote. We want to earn it. Democrats are scared to death that we will if we can get a hearing.
