NYT: calling for genocide is "mostly peaceful" murder

The New York Times is committed to finding “dog whistles” whenever a conservative speaks.

Opposing rioting is a dog whistle for racism. Trump asking his followers to “peacefully and patriotically” protest an election he believed was stolen was actually a call for a violent insurrection. Putting criminals in jail is systemic racism.

But when Black South African politicians call for the murder of people for being White, it is racist to think he is calling for the murder of people for being White.

Speech not calling for violence is dangerous; speech demanding violence shouldn’t be taken literally either.

That actually sounds kinda racist to me, assuming that Black people are incapable of saying what they mean. Apparently, the Times believes that Black people cannot understand that violent language can be interpreted as calls for violence.

You probably have heard of the controversy over Julius Malema, the leader of the South African political party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), leading a crowd in a rousing rendition of a song calling for the wholesale murder of “Boers,” as Dutch settlers in South Africa are called. The chant in the song is “Kill the Boers!)

Boers are mostly farmers, and when Nelson Mandela negotiated the transfer of power, they and other Whites handed power back to Blacks with the understanding that their own rights would be protected. It was a massive achievement–undoing an unjust colonialist takeover of the country with a more just power arrangement that preserved South Africa’s First-world economic status while undoing the worst injustices of the regime.

Since Mandela left politics South Africa has been descending into chaos, and the very problems his deal was intended to prevent have reared their ugly head. Revenge and economic idiocy are now dominant forces in South Africa, and it is descending into third-world failed state territory.

The New York Times is appalled that Republicans have “seized” on Malema’s call for genocide, arguing in an ironic twist that he should be taken seriously but not literally. “Seize” has become an alternative to “pounced.”

The political rally was winding down when the brash leader of a leftist South African party grabbed the microphone and began to stomp and chant. Thousands of supporters joined in, and when he reached the climax, they pointed their fingers in the air like guns.

“Kill the Boer!” Julius Malema chanted, referring to white farmers. The crowd in a stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday roared back in approval.

A video clip of that moment shot across the internet and was seized upon by some Americans on the far right, who said that it was a call to violence. That notion really took off when Elon Musk, the South African-born billionaire who left the country as a teenager, chimed in.

“They are openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa,” Mr. Musk, who is white, wrote on Monday on Twitter, the platform he now controls.

In recent years, people on the right in South Africa and the United States, including former President Donald J. Trump, have seized on attacks on white farmers to make the false claim that there have been mass killings.

Mr. Malema leads the Economic Freedom Fighters, a party that advocates taking white-owned land to give to Black South Africans. That has made his embrace of the chant all the more disturbing to some whites.

Despite the words, the song should not be taken as a literal call to violence, according to Mr. Malema and veterans and historians of the anti-apartheid struggle. It has been around for decades, one of many battle cries of the anti-apartheid movement that remain a defining feature of the country’s political culture.

You may or may not know that Musk is originally from South Africa, and emigrated to the United States because he refused to be drafted into a military that was used to maintain apartheid. He was one of the small group of South Africans who had the courage to integrate his social life with Blacks in a country that was deeply racist as he grew up.

He was simply pointing out that chanting “Kill the Boers” is also deeply racist.

Well, duh.

There are so many problems with the argument that chanting “Kill the Boers” is an anodyne sentiment, not the least of which is that members of the EFF have indeed been killing the Boers. As in massacres of White farmers. These are isolated incidents that conservatives have “seized” on, another ironic statement given that the Left seizes on criminals being killed by police officers as they resist arrest as proof of a systemically racist justice system using violence to keep peaceful Black men oppressed.

The EFF is a violent Marxist party, which gives its members wide latitude to shout violent rhetoric and commit political violence while getting cover from Lefties. These people lionize Che Guevara, who regularly celebrated his own violence.

  • To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary. These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate.–Che Guevara
  • A revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate. We must create the pedagogy of the paredón [execution wall].
  • Blind hate against the enemy creates a forceful impulse that cracks the boundaries of natural human limitations, transforming the soldier in an effective, selective and cold killing machine. A people without hate cannot triumph against the adversary.
  • A relentless hatred of the enemy, impelling us over and beyond the natural limitations that man is heir to and transforming him into an effective, violent, selective and cold killing machine.

Is it a shock they call for killing, and do it? And the people who embrace these sentiments as Lefties do have all the credibility of a con man offering you a way to make quick bucks.

“Seizing” on the call for and actual execution of racist political murders is not “seizing” at all: it is pointing out a reality.

But reality is the enemy of Leftism. “Judicial reform” is another word for enabling criminals. “Mostly peaceful protests” are actually riots and looting. The “Inflation Reduction Act” is really the Green New Deal.

Lies. All lies. And the people who say and enable such things are liars.
