This is the Biden Administration’s vision for helping the homeless: hand out crack pipes and hormones to homeless people.

Are they are trying to deal with the problem by killing off the current population of homeless people and preventing the next generation from being born?

Maybe, but it probably is just run-of-the-mill wokeness run amok.

Either way the US taxpayer is on the hook for a homeless reduction plan that distributes drug paraphernalia and provides “gender affirming care” to the unhoused. Nobody in our government seems to have put together the fact that homeless people need those crack pipes and perhaps that is why they are homeless.

I’ve never smoked crack or done any fentanyl outside a hospital where it was administered as anesthesia, but I have to assume that it works wonders for relieving the dysphoria associated with gender identity issues. If the Biden Administration is fine with helping out the homeless drug addicts get their fix, perhaps we could avoid paying for both?

Just kidding. Bad joke. No, I don’t want people who are suffering to resort to drugs. Get off my back on that one!

On a serious note, this policy is not. I mean not serious. As is obvious from the “harm reduction” part of this “plan,” homelessness is not primarily an economic issue. It is a mental health issue. Addiction, depression, schizophrenia, serial abuse…the causes of homelessness are many, but the solutions in one sense are all the same: treat people as individuals and address the underlying crises.

That requires charities, not programs. The government may be able to provide grants to help out, but frankly that has a terrible track record that usually impedes rather promotes the healing process. The charities become government subsidiaries, not service providers.

Many people may feel uncomfortable with this fact, but religion is what saves most people from being at rock bottom. People who have lost faith in themselves and have succumbed to despair need God’s love. Even if you are an atheist yourself, it is difficult to ignore the fact that religious conversions have saved millions from despair. If you are a believer you know the healing power of faith.

Crack pipes and induction into the new transgender ideology will not heal the souls or the bodies of the downcast. Only love can. No bureaucrat or social worker can provide that love–it has to be freely given by a human being who sees more than a client when they look at a person in despair.

There is zero compassion in outsourcing charity to government. It is no more than buying a modern indulgence for the sin of ignoring our fallen neighbors.

UPDATE: Marco Rubio has inserted into the $1.7 trillion Omnibus bill a provision to ban the purchase of crack pipes. I wonder if the Biden homeless plan will be ruined by this. Now the “gender affirming care” may be more necessary than ever.
