The dispatches from the ever-deepening hole Hillary Clinton dug for herself on Monday keep coming. The latest defense of Clinton’s claim that she and her husband were “dead broke” and “struggled” after leaving the White House comes from a former aide who probably just made an already bad situation for the former secretary of state a little bit worse.

Kiki McLean, a former spokesperson for Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign and a veteran of Democratic politics, joined CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield on Tuesday where she explained that the Clintons are just better than you.

In the clip, via The Weekly Standard, McLean defended Clinton’s remarks first by insisting that she clearly understands the concerns of middle class Americans.

“There’s nothing fair with anybody who would insinuate that Hillary Clinton doesn’t understand the struggle of a middle class family,” McLean said. “She certainly grew up with one. And she gave a statement of fact when President Clinton and Mrs. Clinton left the White House, they were dead broke.”

McLean did, however, note that the Clintons do not necessarily share the concerns of middle class Americans.

“Now,” McLean continued, “they have a life and a set of expectations that are different, and they’ve been fortunate to make some money.”

When you think about it, this clarification probably isn’t helping much at all.
