Billy Bush fired by NBC but John Harwood still has a job

The New York Post is reporting that NBC News has decided to fire Billy Bush because of his involvement in the leaked audio of Donald Trump:

An NBC insider told us: “He is technically fired. It’s just a matter of time. NBC isn’t ready to announce it yet. They are negotiating his exit.”

Bush was suspended from “Today” on Sunday.

Another source close to the network told Page Six: “Billy is done. He is out, but they don’t want to announce anything yet because NBC was burned by the Ann Curry debacle and they are trying to figure out how to do this.” The source added: “They don’t have any incentive to announce this immediately. Each day that goes by” — and gets further from theDonald Trump scandal — “it gets easier,” to announce.

Yesterday I detailed the gross hypocrisy displayed by NBC in merely suspending Bush while hiring the likes of Alec Baldwin and Howard Stern. But, yesterday’s WikiLeaks drop of Clinton/Podesta emails ratchets the double-standard to another level.

The Daily Caller revealed yesterday that CNBC anchor (and Republican primary debate moderator) John Harwood has a more than cozy relationship with the Clinton campaign:

In a December 2015 email to Podesta, Harwood bragged about his much-criticized debate performance in which he asked Trump “Let’s be honest, is this a comic book version of a presidential campaign?”

Harwood titled the email “I imagine…” and continued the sentence in the body of the email, writing, “…that Obama feels some (sad) vindication at this demonstration of his years-long point about the opposition party veering off the rails.”

“I certainly am feeling that way with respect to how I questioned Trump at our debate,” Harwood continued.

In May of 2015, early on in the Republican primary process, Harwood sent Podesta an email telling him to “watch out” for Dr. Ben Carson.”

The subject line of that email read, “Watch out.” “Ben Carson could give you real trouble in a general,” Harwood warned.

Harwood added to the email three news clips on Carson from a recent interview Harwood had conducted with him.

NBC News finds Bush’s passive giggling at Trump’s lewd shenanigans so unacceptable that he can no longer report on Kanye and Miley Cyrus during their fluffy morning show, but CNBC anchor John Harwood can continue to report the news despite his apparent on-going audition as press secretary for the Clinton Administration.

At least we know where NBC draws the line on their journalists and what behavior is acceptable and what behavior will get you fired. And not only have we, the viewers, learned this lesson, but so have all future journalists who might work and NBC. They’ve learned exactly what political affiliations are rewarded and which will lose you your job.
