Protesters troll Trump with giant projections, Bette Midler weighs in

As expected, anti-Trump demonstrators are out and about in London letting their opinions be known about President Trump and his visit to the UK. The Baby Trump balloon flies in the sky and a talking Trump robot (made in China) sits on a gold toilet with a cell phone in hand. An American paid for the robot.

Lessem is better known for designing giant animated dinosaurs. Robot Trump is 16 feet tall.

He would next be headed for an Independence Day event in Washington as he tried to bring the spirit of British satire to the U.S., but that it was fitting that the $25,000 robot receive its first outing in London, as he was inspired by the “baby blimp” that appeared for Trump protests last year. Trump is planning to lead a major gala in Washington on the Fourth of July.

The blimp is expected to take to the air again if police grant approval on Monday.

“I am proud of the British that they go out in the streets to insult Trump. We don’t seem to do it. So, I wanted to debut it there in London,” said Lessem.

Wouldn’t you think if the protests were really all about directing criticism toward President Trump, some Londoners with money to burn would have financed the giant robot themselves? I know America leads the world, but that’s ridiculous. The American is doing a dry run of the robot before bringing it to America for the 4th of July celebrations.

An anti-Brexit campaign group, Led By Donkeys, is adding their own visual aids to the protests. They shine giant projections on London landmarks with anti-Trump messages.

The anti-Brexit campaign group Led By Donkeys tweeted the US president an image of a USS John McCain cap projected on to Madame Tussauds in the capital.

They said: “We read the story about the sailors on a US warship being ordered to hide from you because you’re triggered by the name on their hats.

So we turned Madame Tussaud’s into a giant USS John McCain baseball cap. Welcome to London!”

Trump has been a vocal proponent of Brexit and has been encouraging Prime Minister May to continue working on a deal before the June 10 deadline arrives. There seems to be little hope of anything successful happening on that front, but nonetheless, Trump is now bearing the brunt of criticism from the unhinged protesters while he visits.

It is not unusual for American presidents, especially Republican presidents to receive protests from locals throughout Europe or elsewhere. Karl Rove mentioned on a Fox News Channel show Tuesday morning that President Reagan, during the Cold War, received bigger demonstrations than Trump is getting now in London. It comes with the territory.

Barack Obama was popular around the world because he was happy to do apology tours and badmouth his American opposition abroad. Led By Donkeys delivered a giant projection of approval ratings of Obama versus Trump on London Tower. No, the protesting anti-Brexit bunch are not subtle.

Singer Bette Midler really enjoyed that one. She tweeted out her approval after apologizing for re-tweeting a Trump tweet that was long ago discredited by Snopes. Bless her heart.

The group took on Boris Johnson, too, now that he has Trump’s friendship. Johnson was once a critic of President Trump but now that Trump mentions that Johnson would make a good Prime Minister when Theresa May leaves that position, well, now they are pals. The Donkeys projected a clip of an interview of Johnson onto Big Ben.

The group highlighted the contrast between the pair’s current amicable relationship, compared to comments the Tory MP made about Mr Trump in 2015, in which he said the US leader was “quite frankly unfit to hold the office of the president of the United States”.

There is a billboard shown that was tweeted out on Tuesday, too, about Boris Johnson and Trump.

The most recent tweet from the group was posted as I write this. A giant projection shows a photo of Obama’s inauguration crowd versus one of Trump’s. It’s at the National Gallery.

Ok, then. Only recently the group came forward to expose their identities. They have been conducting an anonymous campaign against Brexit using billboards since their idea to protest developed in 2015. They were exposed in the press by a website, according to the story. Of the four men, a couple of them work for Greenpeace.

Now, the creators of Led By Donkeys have decided to go public. Ben Stewart, James Sadri, Oliver Knowles and Will Rose are hitting back against claims by rightwing bloggers and trolls that they are a shadowy, anonymous group by revealing their identities and motives. “It feels like the right time to say who we are and defend our work and views. We’re proud of what we’ve done,” said Knowles, 43.

The four have been targeted by the Guido Fawkes website, which claimed to have “unmasked” them as “Greenpeace campaigners” last week after they registered their names with the Electoral Commission. Stewart and Knowles do indeed work for Greenpeace, and Sadri and Rose have previously worked for the environmental campaign group, but Led By Donkeys is an entirely freelance amateur operation. “No one at work knew we were doing this,” said Stewart, 45.

Lots of people know them now. They intend to keep going. Ironically, they fret about their concern for “polarisation and division” in their country.

Asked what comes next, the four are uncharacteristically silent for a moment. “The polarisation and division in the country really bothers me, and we talked a lot about whether our poster campaign exacerbates that. We were trying to create a conversation between Leavers and Remainers – and the evidence from what people have told us is that we’ve done that,” said Stewart.

“But it feels like the country is about to slip into an even more polarised state, with a revoke or no-deal dynamic emerging. What can we do about that? I don’t know. But you have to hold people accountable.”

Seems like they should stick to holding their own leaders accountable.
