Tucker Carlson’s show was guest-hosted by Brian Kilmeade last night who said that Carlson was on a previously scheduled vacation. But Carlson did call into the show to talk about the Antifa mob that showed up at his house and frightened his wife. Carlson started on a positive note.

“It’s actually been really nice and affirming,” Carlson said of the response since the videos of the mob became news. He continued, “So for every masked lunatic in front of my house there have been 100 people, some of whom I don’t agree with politically, calling or sending texts of support and kindness. And it’s just a reminder of what a really nice country it is.”

That said he did admit that finding out his wife was hiding in the pantry because of the shouting outside as “upsetting.”

“I’ve characterized the Antifa people and people like them as protesters, but they’re not,” Carlson said. “They weren’t protesting anything. The irony is that this is the one show that regularly invites people like that on to say what they think,” he added.

“They weren’t trying to change my mind or advocate for a position, they were threatening my family to get me to stop talking,” he said. Carlson noted that most people in the country aren’t lucky enough to have a TV show where they can talk back to people like this. “This has a chilling effect on people’s ability to speak and to think freely. That’s the point and it’s totalitarian in its intent,” he said.

“I think the worst thing that they did is they put my home address on the internet,” Carlson said. “You know, I can’t have my kids stay home alone now,” he continued. Carlson said he thinks most of his neighbors are probably Democrats who don’t agree with him on issues, but all of them thought this incident was “appalling.”

Carlson said he thinks one of the people in the mob had been on his show before and argued that he could have asked to be on again but instead chose to try intimidation. Kilmeade pointed out that Antifa has a history of violent behavior which makes this more than an idle threat.

“To do this is a form of intimidation; why are we describing it as a protest,” Carlson said. He added, “It’s a protest in the sense that when the mafia tells a store owner ‘Hey, I’d hate to have this place destroyed.’ That’s not a protest. It’s a threat.

When I wrote about it the other night I used the word protesters in the headline, though I said in the story itself that they were delivering a threat. But Carlson is correct that calling this sort of thing a protest at all is too generous. And that really isn’t terribly surprising when you look at what Antifa believes. Their whole mission is to physically harm people they disagree with. That’s what they’ve always been about, which is why it’s so frustrating when people like Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon go on CNN and defend them.
