Remember the flyers which Arizona Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema’s anti-war group used to advertise their events? The one depicted above featured a U.S. service member as a skeleton carrying a rifle. When CNN broke that story last month, Sinema’s spokesperson claimed the candidate hadn’t approved the design. But today the group Reagan Battalion revealed emails which suggest that Sinema herself was involved in the graphics that appeared on her group’s flyers:

The first email is sent from someone at the Arizona Republic to Sinema and a 3rd person (“snail”). It’s a response to a request to use a cartoon by someone named Benson. The other email is from Sinema to the 3rd party and says that the Republic has agreed to let the group use the cartoon for free.

To be clear, both emails are from June of 2002, several months before the February 2003 event which featured the poster shown above. So I suppose you could still claim that Sinema sometimes got involved in selecting and approving poster art but didn’t do so for her group’s biggest rally of all. That’s pretty hard to believe but I guess that’s what she’ll have to claim next.

There’s another problem. The whole point of Sinema distancing herself from the art above was to suggest that she wasn’t personally denigrating the troops even as she opposed the war. But here’s the sort of thing cartoonist Steve Benson was drawing around this time. To be clear, I have no idea which cartoon Sinema wanted to use for her flyers in 2002 so I’m not saying it was this one in particular, but this is the sort of thing she was a fan of at the time:

Sinema made news for another flashback to her radical past today. In 2006 she told a Scottsdale she had no respect for stay-at-home moms. From the Daily Wire:

In a 2006 interview with the Scottsdale nightlife magazine 944, Simena went off the rails when describing stay-at-home moms, blustering, “These women who act like staying at home, leeching off their husbands or boyfriends, and just cashing the checks is some sort of feminism because they’re choosing to live that life. That’s bulls**t. I mean, what the f*** are we really talking about here?”

Remember, Sinema is running as a moderate’s moderate, someone who won’t even say she’s proud to be a Democrat. But her previous statements suggest she had very different views not so long ago.

Update: Here’s one of Benson’s more recent cartoons. The context here is that McSally was a fighter pilot.
