UK Antifa attempt to 'no-platform' Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg

Last week Tory Member of Parliament Jacob Rees-Mogg gave a speech at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol. The event was interrupted by a group of Antifa protesters wearing masks who began shouting and demanding Rees-Mogg leave the campus. In short, the same type of behavior we’ve seen on several campuses here in the U.S.

Instead of waiting for the protesters to exhaust themselves or be taken away by security, Rees-Mogg decided to go up and talk to them. And that’s when things got a little out of hand. The rude shouting (Nazi, fascist, etc.) continued and eventually, a man in the audience came up and tried to pull one of the protesters away. That led to a scuffle and Rees-Mogg was jostled by the crowd as he tried to separate the two men and de-escalate the situation. Here’s a video of the scene:

As you can see, Rees-Mogg finally gave up trying to talk to the protesters and disengaged. At least one of them Antifa organizers got angry on the way out:

The university issued a statement condemning the “protesters.”

According to Labour MP Jess Phillips, who was also part of the event, the protest only served to make Rees-Mogg look good. From the Sun:

Throughout, you can hear Jacob’s crystal-cut aristocratic tones saying, “Gentlemen, please!” and trying to break it up.

You couldn’t make up how ridiculous this three-minute event was in playing to every stereotype people have about revolutionaries and the upper classes.

The protesters must be some of the worst I have ever seen.

Not because they were aggressive, too chicken to show their faces or seemingly without any actual issue that they cared about.

But because they made Jacob Rees-Mogg look good.

This BBC report confirms that assessment saying that after the interruption even people who didn’t come to support him seemed to be cheering him on:

So it seems Antifa has scored another own-goal while trying to shout down another lecture, this time in Bristol, England. That’s par for the course, really. Antifa nearly always makes their targets look good by comparison.
