Update: The attacker has not been named by authorities but the Associated Press adds this bit of information on what was found in his room:

Bavaria’s interior minister Joachim Herrmann said on public television that investigators raiding his room also found a hand-painted flag of the Islamic State group.

Also from the Associated Press, the victims of the attack were not German. They were all members of one family from Hong Kong:

German officials did not identify the victims, but Hong Kong’s immigration department said Tuesday that among those injured in the attack were four members of a family of five from the southern Chinese city. The department said it is working to provide assistance to the family but did give not give details of their injuries.

Monday night a 17-year-old boarded a train in Würzburg, Germany and attacked passengers with an axe. Deutsche Welle reports:

Three people were seriously injured and a fourth suffered light injuries. Another 14 people were reportedly held up in the train.

According to Bavaria’s Interior Ministry, a 17-year-old Afghan shouted “Allahu Akbar” before launching the attack using a knife and axe. The suspect was shot dead by police as he attempted to flee the scene.

The Telegraph has a bit more on the attacker’s identity. He was a refugee:

Officials said the attacker was a 17-year-old Afghan boy who was an unaccompanied refugee. They did not say whether they believed the attack was terror-related.

So the attacker apparently yelled “Allahu Akbar” on the train but the Washington Post reports he also yelled it again just before he died:

The attacker fled the train when it came to a stop at the town of Heidingsfeld, and was then pursued on foot by police. Two German security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the man charged the officers yelling “Allahu Akhbar — Arabic for “God is great” — when he was shot.

Note: A tweet posted by @dwnews that was originally included in this post was deleted (by DW) and has been removed. The tweet indicated an “Islamist” motive for the attack. It’s not clear why DW deleted it.
