Hillary campaign memoir: Russians and Comey and Misogyny, Oh My!

Alternate title: I Don’t Think We Were Ever in Wisconsin, Toto. The Hillary Clinton campaign memoir awaited with bated breath will focus attention on the real reasons she lost to Donald Trump, reports The Hill. And those “real reasons” will essentially regurgitate the same old excuses that even her allies have grown tired of hearing:

Hillary Clinton’s upcoming book will double down on Russia’s interference and James Comey’s involvement in her stunning election defeat, according to sources familiar with the memoir.

Privately, Clinton has told friends and longtime associates that she “wants the whole story out there” as she rushes to tweak and put the finishing touches on the book due out in September.

“She really believes that’s why she lost, and she wants to explain why in no uncertain terms,” one longtime ally said. “She wants the whole story out there from her own perspective. I think a lot of people are going to be really surprised by how much she reveals.”

The ally said the book of personal essays will be a “bombshell.”

Well, that’s probably half right. Her previous memoir, Hard Choices, proved to be a relative bomb that offered little more than a hagiography and a campaign platform, and her 2014 book tour turned into a disaster. That should have given Democrats pause when it became painfully clear that Hillary couldn’t sell herself even in the absence of competition, and spent much of her time on the tour explaining why people should feel sorry for her.

This new book promises to turn that strategy into an art form. At least with Hard Choices, Hillary hadn’t spent the previous several months publicly telling everyone what might be in the book. It’s hard to imagine anyone but political reporters shelling out $27 to read a rehash of all the excuses she’s been spouting since November 9th. Why pay for the book when you can get the content for free on the Internet?

Of course, the “longtime ally” promises that people will be “really surprised” by some of the content. Note, however, that it doesn’t exactly promise anything new, but just more. Since Hillary Clinton isn’t running any of the investigations, she won’t know more than those who do. Like the constant drumbeat she’s kept up since losing to Trump — which took some doing — Hillary will just keep yelling louder about all of the people who conspired to thwart her coronation while doing everything she can to avoid looking in the mirror.

Interestingly, Hillary’s memoir already has its first review, as John noted two days ago*:

“When you lose to somebody who has 40 percent popularity, you don’t blame other things — Comey, Russia — you blame yourself,” Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said[.]

Will Hillary’s book tour go through Wisconsin, or will the dastardly Russian-Comey-misogynist cabal delete it from her mapbook again?

*- Schumer was talking about the Democratic agenda, not Hillary’s book, of course — but six of one …
