Video: Worst Valentine's Day move ever? Update: fake

Via Jammie Wearing Fool, it’s almost too painful to watch, except that it’s so compelling you’ll watch all three replays. Ever wonder what would happen if one of those high-profile, uber-public proposals went awry? This clip’s for you, where Valentine’s Day magic shows its limits, which is apparently a marriage proposal in the middle of … a hockey game?

That has to be an icing call, because her walkoff is just so cold. Of course, she didn’t ask her date to put her in the position of having to answer the most important question of her life in between power plays, on the JumboVision, while everyone in the arena held their breath, or at least their beers. JWF says a hockey game might have been a poor choice on the romance meter, but the young woman is wearing a team jersey; maybe it wasn’t the venue, but her date’s game that was the problem.

Either way, let this be a lesson. Unless you’re sure of the answer, prospective suitors should consider the YouTube age before popping the question at a sporting event.

Update: A lot of you were wondering whether this was a hoax. Good call:

Showing that the Rangers’ wit is about as razor-sharp as their 10th-place hockey team, that fan marriage proposal gone horribly wrong on Sunday at the Garden turned out Monday to be a wisecrack gone dismally right.

When a woman sitting at the Seventh Ave. end during Sunday’s Rangers-Lightning walked out of the arena on a man who ostensibly had asked her to marry him on the Gardenvision screen, it looked like a brutal turn in a relationship played out in agonizing public view.

In fact, a source said Monday, it was an inside joke cooked up by game-presentation staff and carried out by paid actors who are, in real life, engaged.

The 18,198 in the Garden, and at least one newspaper beat writer? Those were the patsies.

Oh, come on, Michael Obernauer; it wasn’t that bad of a promotion — it was just pathetic.  It hardly holds a candle to Disco Demolition Night, or to the world’s largest sundae that I believe the Atlanta Braves created in the 70s that almost drowned a local DJ who appeared for the promotion.
