Megyn Kelly to Trump: You have some nerve lecturing anyone about sexual assault

I’m posting this mainly in the hope that it’ll help get the Trump/Kelly feud off the ground again. That’d give him a fun new target on Twitter and it’d be dynamite for her ratings. Who among us doesn’t miss the glory days of “blood coming out of her wherever”?

Besides Megyn Kelly, I mean.

She’s right about Trump’s gall in goofing on Franken, of course. I don’t know know what he was thinking posting these tweets last night. He’s waving a red cape in front of a media that was already eager to charge at him again over the allegations he faced last year.

The first tweet is especially baffling. Literally 300 million people will read that and immediately know that Trump has a firm idea of where a lech might want to put his hands on a woman.

As chance would have it, People magazine has a feature out today asking some of POTUS’s accusers how they feel a year later, having had their claims all but completely forgotten. As Trump would say: Not good!

“Things just seem to fall off of Trump, I’m extremely disappointed,” says Jessica Leeds, 75, who alleges Trump tried to kiss her, fondle her breasts and put his hand up her skirt while on a flight to New York in the early 1980s…

“I feel this issue has been ‘on hold’ all year, but not forgotten,” says [Natasha] Stoynoff in an email. “It’s been simmering on the stove with the lid on, like a pressure cooker. But now the heat’s on and it’s going to boil and the lid is going to blast off.”…

“It’s disturbing,” [Melinda] McGillivray says in a text, “that many of Trump’s diehard supporters are so stubborn that they can’t seem to come to terms with the reality that their president is just as guilty as Roy Moore.”

Don’t worry, the GOP will eventually reckon with the charges against him. Probably 20 years from now, when a Democratic president is in the middle of a sex scandal and it’s suddenly advantageous for the party to admits its previous moral failures in order to maintain political leverage over the other team. Democrats know how this works.

A Twitter pal asks a good question, meanwhile. How can Democrats expect the Senate to expel Roy Moore if they don’t get Al Franken to resign first? The charges against Moore are worse but there’s photographic proof of one of Franken’s misdeeds. Moore’s already complaining about a double standard; that’ll only get louder if he wins the election and the Senate moves against him while Franken is still a member. Imagine Franken casting a vote to expel Moore.

But of course, none of this is as simple as “Franken vs. Moore.” No doubt there are all sorts of transgressions that have been committed by senators over the years that are known on the Hill but nowhere else. The infamous Ted Kennedy/Chris Dodd assault on a waitress wasn’t reported until many years after it happened by journalist Michael Kelly and remains unknown to the vast majority of the public to this day. If Franken goes or Moore goes — or both go — it leaves McConnell and Schumer in a position of eventually having to move against other senators in their own caucus whose misdeeds aren’t yet known, but might be soon. A “zero tolerance” policy could produce a massive sh*tstorm in which multiple senators from both parties are suddenly facing expulsion or resignation. Neither Democrats nor Republicans want to deal with that. So expect both Franken and Moore to be in the Senate next year if Moore wins next month.
