Video: Vietnam veteran stands up to Baltimore rioters

Via the Standard, an island of sanity in last night’s maelstrom. There were others — Freddie Gray’s family, some Christian ministers, the mom in the yellow shirt, even the Nation of Islam(!), who were praised by Megyn Kelly on air for trying to restore order — but Vietnam vet Robert Valentine is the one people are talking about. He stepped between a line of cops and rioters, telling the latter to go home. They could have killed him and he knew it. No fear.

There is, of course, already a Facebook page in his honor, and assuming he’s amenable, there are bound to be some cable-news interviews today. I just hope the notoriety doesn’t cause problems for him: If he’s out there again tonight, he might get some special attention from the crowd. Stay safe, master sergeant.
