Writes Kaus of the Spanish-language spot I posted earlier, “Would McCain ever run this ad in English?” Answer: Yeah, maybe, judging by this new one. The rhetoric from the Spanish-language clip about who’s “on the side” of illegals is dropped but the Orwellian habit of referring to “immigrants” instead of “illegal immigrants” is thoughtfully retained, as are the trademark McCain aspersions cast on the motives of amnesty opponents. Quote: “Whether from Italy, Ireland, Mexico, or the Far East, too often, new immigrants have been treated as objects of fear, instead of symbols of hope.” Which, of course, explains why most people who fought his comprehensive piece of shinola bill last year still support legal immigration, including from Mexico. Hey, Maverick? Not one more dime.
