If it’s any comfort, it’s not like he’s making Peter Strzok money or anything.
Still, he’s more than $100,000 richer than he was yesterday thanks to this infernal GoFundMe page, proof that in America 2018 even a rich, crooked New York lawyer can rake in the ResistanceBucks so long as he’s performing the very important task of pissing off the left’s least favorite person.
Maybe I should “formerly rich,” though. Note the fine print on the GoFundMe page:
On July 2, 2018, Michael Cohen declared his independence from Donald Trump and his commitment to tell the truth.
On August 21, Michael Cohen made the decision to take legal responsibility and to continue his commitment to tell the truth.
Michael decided to put his family and his country first. Now Michael needs your financial help — to pay his legal fees.
Check the sidebar on the webpage and you’ll see that it’s not Cohen who launched it, it’s his lawyer, Lanny Davis. And it’s not Cohen who’s out there promoting it today. It’s Davis, who must be awfully nervous that between the legal expenses incurred thus far by Cohen this year and the prospect of asset forfeiture as a result of his guilty plea, his own legal representation of Cohen may end up being gratis of necessity. He made a point of mentioning the Cohen fund drive in more than one national TV interview this morning in the hopes of eventually getting paid. It … did not go over well on Megyn Kelly’s show:
Davis mentions a URL for the GoFundMe page: michaelcohentruth.com. That is … not the URL he was supposed to mention, though. The correct URL is michaelcohentruthfund.com. Thanks to his gaffe, someone snapped up the michaelcohentruth.com address this morning and, well, click the link and see where it takes you. It’s one thing to rattle a tin cup on behalf of a sleazy Manhattan grifter, it’s another to give out the wrong website address, for fark’s sake. If I were Cohen, I’d sue.
