Yikes: Kathy Griffin photo of beheaded Trump freaked out Trump's son; Update: CNN drops Griffin from NYE show

How bad is the backlash to yesterday’s stunt? This bad:

She’s too toxic for the sh*t industry.

This will make it worse, if that’s possible:

Barron Trump was watching television Tuesday at home with Melania when Kathy Griffin’s photo appeared on the screen, and his initial reaction was that something terrible happened to his father.

Trump family sources tell us Barron was in front of the TV watching a show when the news came on and he saw the bloody, beheaded image. We’re told he panicked and screamed, “Mommy, Mommy!”

As it was put to us, “He’s 11. He doesn’t know who Kathy Griffin is and the head she was holding resembled his dad.”

That’s from TMZ, which, er, broke the Griffin news yesterday, setting in motion the events that placed the photo in front of Barron Trump. Griffin apologized surprisingly quickly last night but Trump nuked that this morning when he tweeted that Barron was having “a hard time” with the photo. Mrs. Trump isn’t happy either:

Why did Griffin apologize? John had it right last night: She thought the left would back her up but instead most turned on her, either because they thought she went too far or because they recognized that the stunt was self-defeating and turned Trump into a victim. For cripes sake, even Keith Olbermann paused yesterday to scold her for it amid dozens of tweets about how Jared Kushner should be arrested immediately. This is a guy who openly pleaded with enemy intelligence a few weeks ago to publish any dirt they had on Trump in hopes of generating grounds for impeachment.

And then came the cruelest cut of all:

Even Anderson, her perennial New Year’s Eve co-host on CNN. “We found what she did disgusting and offensive,” said the network in a statement. “We are pleased to see she has apologized and asked that the photos be taken down. We are evaluating New Year’s Eve and have made no decisions at this point.” But … who’s going to mime fellating Cooper while America waits for the ball to drop now?

Griffin has no regular TV or movie gigs apart from the CNN NYE thing and mostly plays herself when she does pop up onscreen, so the silver lining for her, I guess, is that the financial fallout will be limited. (She may have the inside track for the White House Correspondents Dinner next year, come to think of it.) She’ll lie low for awhile then emerge with a new stand-up special on Bravo talking about the crazy fallout from the Trump-head photo shoot and how Brooke Shields said the funniest thing to her about it or whatever. In the meantime, the outrage cycle moves on. Next stop: Here?

What?
