The obligatory "Caitlyn Jenner may de-transition" post

Big culture-war news if true, but it probably isn’t. Supposedly Jenner just agreed to pose nude for the cover of the “Sports Illustrated” Olympics issue. That’s not something you do if you’ve concluded you made a mistake and would rather people start thinking of you as Bruce again.

Imagine the uproar if it’s true, though. Jenner’s become the national face of trans acceptance. It’s now a Class A thoughtcrime on the left to view transgenderism as weird. The storyline of his coming out was that he’d suppressed his true self for decades because society wouldn’t tolerate it, then finally found happiness late in life when he mustered the courage to become who he truly is. If he decides now “What I truly am is a guy and becoming that again will make me happier than this,” the trans community will lose its biggest name and the rest of the public will deduce that maybe being trans is less about finding your real identity than about going through some sort of phase psychologically. Highly “problematic.” Hope he/she’s ready for the backlash from the left in the unlikely event this is accurate.

“One source confirmed to me Caitlyn has made whispers of ‘sex change regret,’ hinting she might go back to being Bruce Jenner,” [author Ian] Halperin said…

“It hasn’t been easy for Caitlyn, it’s been very hard,” the friend said, according to Halperin. “She’s thrilled she has raised awareness about how transgender people have long been discriminated against but I think there’s a chance she’ll de-transition in the next couple years. I don’t think it would surprise anybody in her inner circle. It has been much harder than she anticipated. My heart goes out to her and I know her true friends will be there to support her on whatever path she chooses.”

According to Halperin, multiple sources close to the Kardashian family told him that Jenner might revert back because she retains her interest in females.

Halperin’s book about the Kardashians came out just a few weeks ago. What are the odds he’d have a splashy, thinly-sourced scoop about Jenner in time to help pique public interest? (A PR flack for Jenner called it the “dumbest story of the day.”)

Via Ace, a musical tribute to the hordes who’ll be waiting for Jenner if he/she “betrays” them.
