The default topic for Sunday shows from week to week is the Republican primary unless there’s something newsy that intervenes. This week, something intervened. Your lead guest on “Meet the Press” this morning is AG Loretta Lynch, who’ll be on to explain how the vast U.S. surveillance apparatus overlooked an American jihadi who was reportedly in touch with the Nusra Front and al-Shabab. Hopefully Chuck Todd will also ask for clarification of whatever the hell Lynch was trying to say a few days ago about rhetoric that “edges towards violence.” Is she talking about threats or is she talking about “hate speech”? That’s no minor distinction for First Amendment purposes.
Elsewhere, Trump will be on “Face the Nation” and “State of the Union” to reassure voters that, on terrorism, “I would handle it so tough you would have no idea.” And Hillary Clinton will be on “This Week” to reiterate her total confidence in Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel to continue suppressing damning evidence of police shootings that might inconvenience his political career. The full line-up is at the AP.
