People are going to goof on him for this, but what did he have to lose? His endorsement means little anymore so neither Romney nor Gingrich would have felt indebted to him for giving it to them. In fact, I’m sure they’re both relieved to have not gotten it. If he backed Mitt, the media spin tomorrow would emphasize support from an also-ran as a metaphor for Romney’s fading chances in South Carolina. And if he threw it to Newt, you know full well what the spin would be. Turns out he’s going to deliver the Tea Party Express’s SOTU response next week, so consider this a little advertisement for that.
