Matthews: Do white Republicans get nervous when they see black Republicans at the convention?

Last week’s demagoguery was so bad that this actually feels like relief. If the MSNBC all-stars are willing in all earnestness to use mass murder to score political points, where’s the harm in a little “you’re all racists!” ribbing to celebrate MLK Day? If I understand him correctly, apparently he thinks Reince Priebus is going to have to pull Steele, Allen West, Tim Scott, J.C. Watts, and maybe Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindal, and Susana Martinez aside at the beginning of the convention two years from now and ask them not to stand near each other lest white Republicans in the crowd start to feel jittery at so many dark-skinned people in close proximity. Because, hey — they might start plotting. And don’t get me started on that Rubio guy. You know how shady he looks.

The irony here? One of Steele’s most horrible soundbites as RNC chair was something very similar to this. He does much better this time, particularly in noting the gains made by minority Republicans in November, but I’m surprised Matthews didn’t bring up that old incident to box him in.
