No one expects much from these weekly talking-points communiques, least of all from Fiorina after last year’s campaign gaffes, but this one’s superbly delivered and almost shockingly effective. A nice catch from Bill Dupray: At no point does she mention her Senate bid or even the words Republican, Democrat, or Obama. I wonder if that was the GOP’s idea, to make it feel more intimate and less overtly political, or whether Fiorina herself demanded it. Rarely will you see a candidate given a national spotlight decline the opportunity to mention her candidacy, but like I say, this ain’t the usual message fare.
Another thing she doesn’t mention, per Michael Roston in the comments to Dupray’s post: The fact that she’s swimming in dough and can fully afford to pay her own way for even the most expensive treatments. Expect that to be the main line of attack even though it doesn’t address her point about rationing, along with plenty of outrageous outrage from the masters of victim politics that the GOP would dare “exploit” a victim here.
