How often do you see a photo op involving both the oldest wonder of the world and the newest? Chris Matthews leg-thrill rating: Off the charts.
As in all things, his speeches especially, The One’s frame of reference remains reliably focused on himself.
The great pyramid is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and during a brief stop here Thursday after delivering a major speech aimed at Muslims around the world, President Obama spotted another notable sight: a hieroglyphic that showed the face of a man with big ears.
Obama entered the tomb and saw it right away.
“That looks like me!” he said. “Look at those ears!”
Frankly, I’m surprised he didn’t deliver today’s “we are the world” hymn outdoors with the pyramids as a backdrop. We know he digs classical settings per his DNC Temple of the Gods acceptance speech; this one should have been a no-brainer. Why, the lame, platitudinous metaphors practically write themselves: “Just as each of these structures is strengthened and beautified by a union of many millions of blocks, so too our world is strengthened and beautified by different nations unifying in the common cause of” blah blah blah blah.
Actually, you know what an even sweeter setting would have been? Right on top of the Sphinx’s head. Imagine how majestic TOTUS would have looked.
