Drudge is leading with the fact that he said he’d take no options off the table in dealing with them, but he’s said that before and was considerably more specific about which options he had in mind back when he was a senate candidate in 2004. Yes indeed, the Iranian nuke kabuki really has dragged on that long.
This is as close as we’re going to get to a red line statement about stopping Iran at all costs so savor the meaty specifics of “big sticks and big carrots.” Exit question: Is there even an iota’s difference between the position he articulates and Bush’s current position? We’re meeting with them face to face now and the results are literally laughable. Just this morning Ahmadinejad reiterated that we have nothing, essentially, to talk about. Obama alludes at one point to more robust sanctions, but after three rounds at the UN and another round forthcoming within the next two weeks, I don’t know why he thinks he’ll be able to do better than Bush unless he believes Beatles-esque waves of Obamamania are going to sweep through Russia and China, forcing their leadership to agree to any penalty the Messiah deems fit.
Update: Matt “Froggy” Heidt forwards this clip as a reminder of how Obama’s rhetoric changes when he’s in front of a U.S. audience versus an Israeli one.
