What’s with the sudden trend of nebbishes as superheroes? First Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, now Edward Norton, of all people, as the Hulk? When does Jason Biggs get to play Superman?

Norton likes these beta-male split-personality roles, though, doesn’t he? “Fight Club” is the most obvious example but his first big part, as the schizo altar boy in “Primal Fear,” was all about that, too. Presumably he digs them because they let him show off his range, except … it was Brad Pitt who played the alpha Norton in FC and here it’s some CGI grotesquerie. Range by association?
