Video flashback: Huckabee on letting illegal immigrants compete for state scholarships

Another old clip dug up by Arkansas Journal, which was responsible for the tax vid heard ’round the world. Huck’s supporters usually quibble with the phrasing when this issue comes up and insist that it was the children of illegal immigrants whom he wanted to make eligible for the scholarships. Read Lonewacko’s post, though, and follow the link to the text of the bill. The “children of illegals” formulation appears to be a crafty way of implying that the scholarships would be limited to students who were themselves citizens of the United States even though their parents were not. The bill even invokes the language in the preamble. But here’s how the operative section reads: “Any tuition rate that is granted to residents of Arkansas shall be granted on the same terms to all persons, regardless of immigration status, who have attended a secondary educational institution in Arkansas for at least three (3) years and who have either graduated from an Arkansas high school or received a general education diploma in the state.”

What are the points in favor of Huck at this point, exactly? One: He’s friends with Chuck Norris. Two: He’s got a sense of humor. Three: …?

Coincidentally, here’s Mitt’s new ad. Fred’s immigration spot was pure pap, which was a shame given that he’s the only candidate with a concrete plan. Mitt’s is 99.44% pap, the magic .56% coming in the recitation of his record on a few immigration-related issues. It’s just too hard to hit this topic in a 30-second clip, I think.

Say, things between Mitt and Rudy are getting a little hot, aren’t they? I can almost hear Will Ferrell’s voice: “Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast.”

Huck threw a trident!
