Joe Biden gave another one of his rambling, occasionally stumbling interviews to Pittsburgh’s KDKA television recently and managed to highlight exactly how little he thinks of the entire election process. Either that, or he’s really losing the thread again. In any event, host Jon Delano brought up the subject of the veepstakes and, for some reason, mentioned former First Lady Michelle Obama’s name. It didn’t sound as if it was any sort of a trap, but Biden managed to take the bait anyway. He gushed about Barack Obama’s better half, describing how she would be a great choice for Vice President if she could be convinced to accept the position. Seriously, Joe? (CBS Pittsburgh)
Joe Biden says he would take Michelle Obama to be his running mate for the 2020 presidential election.
The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee told KDKA’s Jon Delano that the former first lady would be a strong addition as VP if he thought she would accept the nomination.
“I’d take her in a heartbeat,” Biden said on Monday. “She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends.”
“I don’t think she has any desire to live near the White House again,” Biden added.
It’s not hard to see why Biden would be eager to flatter Michelle Obama. She remains one of the most popular women in the world among Democratic voters and her last name certainly doesn’t hurt. He probably also knows there’s no danger in bringing this up because, by all reports, you couldn’t drag Michelle Obama back near the White House again with a tractor and a train.
But at the same time, why should we take anything Biden says seriously if he would honestly consider Mrs. Obama as a vice presidential pick? Let’s remember that Michelle Obama has not only never held elected office… she’s never even run. And in the private sector, she’s never run a large business or any other operation that might demonstrate the skills needed to assume the duties of the President should they become unavailable. She basically has all of the qualifications that Hillary Clinton had when she first ran for the Senate. In other words, none. Either the office of Vice President means nothing to Joe Biden or he just lies to impress people. Take your pick.
Oh, and speaking of Hillary Clinton, her name came up in the interview also. Biden invoked the former Secretary of State by saying, “I think it’s really important now that we establish once and for all, we should have had a woman president already, in Hilary in my view. There are a number of qualified women out there.”
Yes, Joe. I’m sure there are any number of qualified women out there. In fact, there were several running against you for the nomination. If you felt it was so critical that we have a female president by now, why were you running? You could have just as easily either dropped out or stayed on the sideline to begin with and endorsed one of them. But I suppose it’s a bit late for that now, eh? It’s no time to cry over spilled milk, as they say.
Joe has already bagged the nomination, assuming he can hold it together long enough to make it past whatever sort of convention the Democrats manage this summer. And yet he’s continuing to play identity politics every day. He kept up with that pattern when he promised the reporter in this interview that there would be a black woman on the Supreme court. Seriously? Of all the qualified judges out there, you’ve already narrowed it down to both the gender and precise race of the only potential nominees you will consider? (Notice he doesn’t even suggest the nominee might be Hispanic or Asian.)
Biden isn’t taking his potential responsibilities seriously at this point. He’s still trying to dance to the tune of social justice activists in his party’s base. Sadly, Joe’s dancing days seem to be drawing to a close.
