Biden laughs about Nashville shooting

President Biden was asked about whether or not the shooting in Nashville should be investigated as a “hate crime.”

His first response was reasonable: “I have no idea.” As I said yesterday making a rush to judgment about any crime or breaking news event is a mistake. The facts are often jumbled or wrong, and everybody is busy engaging in narrative building to confirm their priors.

I have my own solid guesses about the motives of the shooter and everybody inevitably will as well, but to have people in positions of power force unique events into narratives repels me. I want to know what happened before I spout publicly about it.

So I don’t blame Biden for holding back, although I suspect his motives have more to do with defending his ideological priors than wanting to stick to the facts. He certainly has spouted narratives in other cases before the facts are in. But what he said by itself? I have no quarrel.

But then? He started chuckling about it.

He was smiling throughout the exchange, which was inappropriate to begin with. But when informed that Senator Josh Hawley thinks it was a hate crime he started chuckling and said “well I probably don’t [think it is a hate crime] then.”

He chuckled. He walked it back and then said, “that’s a joke.”

Not cool. Not cool at all.

Six people died in addition to the shooter. Three children, one 8- and two 9-year-olds, along with 3 older adults. And he laughs about it.

Biden is demented. And I mean that literally. He doesn’t have command of himself and his emotions. No reasonable person, certainly no president, would laugh about such a thing.

He laughed.

I suspect that the Nashville shootings were a hate crime, and am amazed that so many transgender activists are embracing as a necessary act of self-defense and threatening more such events. But the President of the United States is probably right to stay out of that controversy because the victims aren’t even buried yet and the investigation is ongoing.

But our “compassionate” president looks at tragedy and uses it as the occasion for a joke.

Ugly.
