On Monday, the folks who work for the British Broadcasting Company, who had been 'unsettled' by downbeat comments from their outgoing chairman, were further unnerved when word came of a big meeting with the network's head honchos at the BBC headquarters in London.
They spent a few days on pins and needles, wondering what, if anything, that get-together might have to do with the 21,000 or so employees.
Yesterday, they found out in a rude shock to the state media system.
đ¨BREAKING: The BBC has been forced to let go of more than 2,000 employees (10% of total workforce) as they face SIGNIFICANT financial constraints

This comes after millions of Brits boycotted the far-left propaganda machine.
The collapse of the BBC is imminent! đŹđ§ pic.twitter.com/3DGcvhvZgH
It's being benignly termed a 'cost-cutting drive.' What it is in actuality is a slash-and-burn attempt to close at least a ÂŁ500M ($675M) chunk of a massive overall budget gap.
The BBC is planning to make up to 2,000 job cuts in one of its most brutal cost-cutting efforts to date.
Rhodri Talfan Davies, the BBCâs interim director general, announced the redundancy proposals in an all-staff call on Wednesday afternoon local time.
He said between 1,800 and 2,000 roles will go over the next two years, with more details to come from September, meaning staff face an anxious wait to find out where the axe will fall.
The BBC will open a voluntary redundancy scheme to avoid compulsory layoffs, Talfan Davies told staff, according to Deadline sources.
Being state-run media and even more progressively woke, insufferably arrogant, and entitled than our own PBS was, the BBC blames the British public.
...Sources said Talfan Davies and BBC CFO BĂŠrangère Michel painted a bleak picture of the corporationâs finances. They said it was unsustainable that 94% of the UK population use the BBC every month, but fewer than 80% pay the ÂŁ180 annual licence fee.
âIf we had a funding model that mirrored our consumption, all of this [the cuts] would go away,â he told staff, per one insider. âWe have a funding model at the moment that is unsustainable and is reaching the end of its sell-by date.â
This is where the BBC's decades of government-enforcement entitlement have finally met a reality check it cannot circumvent.
Unlike our PBS, whose $550M yearly stipends from the federal government were irksome to contemplate, but minuscule in comparison to the overall burden taxpayers carry - something like a buck forty from each of us - the BBC is supposed to receive a yearly government-mandated 'television fee' from every household.
As our son, Ebola*, discovered to his great irritation when he came home from base on day to a politely worded but threatening letter from the local enforcement arm of the collection program. From the roof of his townhome hangs a dilapidated satellite dish, clinging bravely by virtue of one rusted screw and the cables that run back into the attic.
It's the owner's, not our son's, and probably hasn't worked since Sputnik in any event.
Our son has only innerwebs and no TV cable or antenna of any other sort in the home, and wouldn't watch the BBC to save his life.
The BBC TV License Enforcement Officers have little vans that drive through neighborhoods all over the UK, constantly looking for telltale signs of signal connections, like this petrified and obviously inoperable dish. When they find such evidence, they bounce the address against their database to see if the resident is up to date on their TV license fee. If they are, they continue the hunt.
If they are not, they get the letter Ebola received, warning them to immediately pay the ÂŁ180, or be prepared for an unannounced knock on the door for an inspection. At that time, the government representatives would search the premises for any signs of connectivity in your domicile, and the fines could reach into the thousands of pounds if you were found to be a non-license-paying scofflaw.
Ebola did the research and found the only way to keep them from barging into your home to look for wires and plugs was if they didn't have a magistrate with them.
He paid the Brit geld yet again, incandescent it's one more cost-of-living item the British stuck him with that the US government doesn't reimburse servicemembers stationed there for, who have the privilege of defending our fickle and ungrateful ally.
But the BBC's long reign of pecuniary intimidation and terror may well be over, and, unsurprisingly, they only have themselves to blame.
The jig, as they say, is up.
The awful truth about the BBC is now too monstrous to hide
Our national broadcaster has promulgated a pernicious Leftist orthodoxy that has taken hold of our institutions
Britain is a decaying, dysfunctional society, and the BBC is complicit in our decline. Our national broadcaster is not merely dishonest, biased and prone to cover-ups, as a Telegraph investigation reveals; it has also been wrong about almost everything that matters.
Fuelled by billions of pounds extracted via the licence fee, the BBC has spent forty years shrinking the Overton window, waging war against centre-Right dissidents, bullying politicians into following destructive orthodoxies and promoting an anti-Western, anti-capitalist, anti-conservative worldview.
Its output, riddled with group-think, lapped up by our decrepit establishment, reeks of oikophobia, economic illiteracy, soft socialism, suicidal empathy and luxury beliefs. Seduced by critical theory, the BBC backs the âanywheresâ against the âsomewheresâ, supports global institutions, from the EU to UNRWA, and barely conceals its disgust at those who prefer power to be located at the national level.
One of the BBCâs foundational biases is to assume more government â spending, regulation, intervention, censorship â is the answer to every problem, rather than private initiative and markets. It often describes those on the Left as ârespected expertsâ while labelling others as âRight-wingâ.
It is indulgent towards virtue-signalling âcharitiesâ and NGOs, and has no interest in who funds them or in gauging the efficacy or track record of their ideas; but is always ready to slam, trash and interrupt their opponents. The BBC assumes the worst of business, and the best of âenvironmentalâ or âhuman rightsâ campaigners. It rightly holds politicians with genuinely fascistic views to account, but is soft on far-Left extremists such as the repellent Zohran Mamdani, mayor elect of New York.
BBC viewers have indeed noticed that 'terrorists' attack migrants, and those terrorists only ever have blue eyes.
This is insane.

The BBC just dropped a propaganda film where an English extremist is sniping a child on an illegal migrant dinghy.
1. There are NO children on the boats
2. There has NEVER been an attack on an illegal migrant, they attack English children pic.twitter.com/0iCsQW870L
The BBC, if you'll remember, recently went after England's puppies.
I wonder why?
"Are we becoming too dog friendly"

"The rise of dog friendly spaces are a concern"
No. And no they're not.
Britain is a nation of dog lovers.
Defund the BBC. pic.twitter.com/3MFxUWjFhn
I had a story a while ago where the BBC helpfully spread a lie about 14,000 babies doomed to die 'within days' in Gaza. No correction or retraction afterward. The Beeb is still trying to get Trump's $10B lawsuit against them for manipulating video thrown out. Sterling characters in that company.
These are only recent examples of the BBC's years of stomping with impunity all over the cherished values, storied kings and queens of yore, and traditions of those working-class Brits forced to hand over the BBC's geld. A class of citizens who have decided they no longer will bow to these threats and intimidation and aren't going to pay for the BBC to kick them around anymore.
This fellow has a longish video describing himself experiencing precisely what Ebola went through, but is helping foment rebellion, hence he's gotten more visits.
The first few minutes are eye-opening.
There are now close to two and a half million households unwilling to part with their hard-earned money to subsidize a government propaganda operation they heartily despise, which they well know equally despises them.
So they've cut the BBC cord, door knockers and all.
Even former BBC show hosts are pushing a boycott of the fee over the network's insufferable and unrelenting bias.
YOU'RE NOW ON OUR LIST
The former presenter of the BBCâs Clothes Show has stopped paying his licence fee in protest at âextreme biasâ at the broadcaster.
Jeff Banks, the fashion designer and former BBC presenter, said he was being pursued by licence fee collectors after he stopped paying the annual charge.
Banks claimed he had received five âthreatening lettersâ telling him that he could be fined and that enforcers would come to his home.
The designer said he wrote to the BBC in August saying that he no longer wished to have a licence, after concluding that the corporationâs news coverage was biased.
He has accused TV Licensing of harassment by continuing to pursue him.
Posting a video on social media, Banks, 82, said: âI have actually given up watching the BBC and listening to the BBC so on August 19 of this year, when I got a demanding letter that I have a licence, I wrote back very respectfully and said, âI donât want one. I donât watch any more and I donât listen to BBC radio any moreâ.
âIn my day, the World Service was held in esteem. Itâs not any more. People are doubtful whether itâs actually telling the truth and the BBC has become extremely biased.
âSince then Iâve had five threatening letters sent to me insisting that if I donât get a licence I could actually be fined up to ÂŁ1,000, and the last one that arrived last week actually threatened me [that] people were going to come to my house to investigate me because Iâm now on a list.â
Orwell might well have modeled Big Brother on the BBC.
...There is endless hand-wringing, much of it justified, over the impact of demented online personalities and fake news, yet the BBCâs role in corrupting our national debate through its ideological gatekeeping is overlooked.
Our pathetic growth and diminished living standards? The BBC made life hard for any politician who had the temerity to call for lower spending, reduced red tape or lower tax rates, the obvious solutions. Years of excessive immigration, which has, inter alia, fuelled Islamism? For decades, it wasnât possible to propose lower migration without accusations of racism.
Net zero, which destroyed industry and pushed up energy prices, was pushed almost uncritically by the BBC. Lockdowns? The BBC turned itself into a hysterical purveyor of the official line, claiming the problem was not shutting down fast enough and cancelling anybody who (truthfully) blamed a Chinese virus leak.
In one way, it seems as if the British people have finally found a bit of collective spine again.
If more of them stop paying the geld, there should soon be a big enough hammer to bring the whole bloody woke Beeb crashing down.
*Our son was one of the very first computer and gaming savants in the early 90s, winning tournaments and designing "skins" for games not long after Al Gore invented the innerwebs. Unfortunately, he also had a knack for catching the first viruses. One was so virulent that it wiped his computer and all of my work and required one of his father's computer geeks to come from base with a DoD program to finally exterminate it. His uncle Bingley nicknamed him "Ebola," and it has been his nom-de-innerwebs ever since.
