Would the 'We're Needy and We Know It' Generation Just Learn to Ask for a Hug?

Call me craz...okay. I realize that isn't a new thing, as most of you already do, but humor me here.

CALL ME CRAZY BUT

(And not crazy BUTT - don't think I didn't know you were thinking it.)

I'm a teensy bit tired of the needy whiners of the world acting out instead of growing tf up.

I realize life is cruel, and crueler if you're needlessly needy for attention, for love, for that pat on the head, whatever it is you search for endlessly and cannot find to your satisfaction.

This is also a key sticking point.

It always has to be to the needy one's endless, goalpost-moving satisfaction, not to end the efforts of those taking earnest and well-meant steps to assuage the needy one's demands. So when the realization dawns that all of the accommodations made - be it kinder, gentler tones, a softer office chair, or the heat cranked up to 76°, regardless of the time of year, ad nauseum - in order to ease the suffering which is obviously making the needy one's life unbearable are for naught, and unappreciated to boot, indifference and irritation are a natural result of the incessant barrage of WAAH.

This leads not to introspection on the part of the needy person. Like, questioning, 'Have I alienated these folks somehow? Could do something differently, perhaps, to ease this uncomfortable state of affairs?'

Alas, no.

It inevitably leads to a cycle of ever-increasing WAAH volume, which eventually erupts in some type of tantrum, be it desk sniffling, breakroom donut flinging, door slamming conflict, complaints to HR, or, more concerningly lately, a spectacular 'WAAH ME!' stunt.

All designed to draw attention and pity to the delusional subject.

We all know this person/these people and avoid them like the plague, which exacerbates the issue in many instances.

Brother Bingley sent me a sad example of this today, an extreme example.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey was suddenly under an active shooter lockdown yesterday.

Terrifying, right? I mean, my heart's in my throat every single time.

Didn't we just have soldiers shot and killed by one of their fellow soldiers at Fort Stewart outside of Savannah?

Why yes. Yes, we did.

So no one was taking this lying down.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey was briefly under lockdown on Tuesday morning.

In a press release issued at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET, the base said it "responded to reports of an active shooter" just before 11 a.m., activating emergency protocols. Law enforcement and base officials determined around noon that no active shooter was substantiated.

"Our priority is the safety and security of everyone on the installation," Col. Michael Stefanovic, JBMDL commander, said in a statement. "We worked closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure the situation was investigated and resolved as quickly as possible."

The base posted around 11 a.m. ET, "THERE IS A LOCKDOWN AT JBMDL. ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO LOCKDOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALL PERSONNEL OUTDOORS SHOULD TAKE COVER."

Base security determined that it there was no shooter, eventually called the 'all clear,' and then called it a hoax which had originated in an office building on the McGuire side of the base.

... "A notification about a potential active shooter on a joint military base (Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst) in New Jersey sparked a lockdown and brief public concern Tuesday, but authorities later said the report of the threat was unfounded."

The incident which appears to have originated in an office building on the McGuire side of the base.

All that uproar, which could have turned into a deadly commotion?

One of those needy people was acting out.

Base Employee Caused Active Shooter Hoax To 'Trauma Bond' With Co-Workers, Feds Say

The civilian employee claimed she heard 5 or 6 gunshots, according to the federal complaint.

I just can't EVEN with these people.

A civilian employee who felt ostracized by her co-workers reported a fake active shooter on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to "trauma bond" with her co-workers, according to a federal complaint.

Malika Brittingham, who works for the U.S. Navy, was charged Tuesday night in federal court with knowingly and willfully conveying false information about an active shooter at the base, leading to a lockdown that lasted about an hour and prompted several schools to shelter in place.

The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court in Trenton, alleges Brittingham texted a person identified only as "Individual 1" at 10:14 a.m. saying she had heard five or six gunshots and was hiding in a closet with her co-workers at the base.

This ignorant, self-absorbed, pathetic sack of human excrement could have easily gotten someone killed over her WAAH!

If she thought no one liked her before?

...Brittingham, who is assigned to the U.S. Navy Warfare Center in Patuxent River in Maryland but physically works at the Joint Base in New Jersey, "explained that she carried out this hoax because she had been ostracized by her co-workers and hoped that their shared experience in response to an active shooter would allow them to 'trauma bond,' " the complaint says.

I got a breaking newsflash for the girlfriend after this 'shared experience' stunt.

Also, a piece of advice - asking for hugs in federal prison can be dicey.

Try growing up while you're there - there's going to be plenty of time to work on it.

You're WAAHlcome.
