The Biden Years: 'I've Got a Pen and I'm Not Afraid for Someone Else to Use It'

We're almost to the point now where the tit-for-tat over Special Counsel Robert Hur's report and his decision not to charge Joe Biden for mishandling classified documents because he was a doddering, dementia-ridden old man should be entered into evidence as Exhibit A.

This was a sanctioned legal proceeding, was it not?

A duly appointed special counsel investigating Biden interviewed said chief executive as part of his year-long investigation. The government's investigation determined the president wasn't of sound enough mind to be prosecuted.

So convinced was Hur of Biden's mental incapacity that, even in the face of scurrilous assertions by Democratic members of Congress that the Merrick Garland appointed Hur was a Republican tool, Hur stuck doggedly to his determination during subsequent testimony before a Congressional committee in March of 2024.

He wasn't disparaging the president, Hur insisted. Just stating the facts.

What Hur had found was that the lights were on, only no one was home.

...Special counsel Robert Hur, testifying for more than four hours before the House Judiciary Committee, stood steadfastly by the assessments in his 345-page report that questioned Biden’s age and mental competence but recommended no criminal charges for the 81-year-old president, finding insufficient evidence to make a case stand up in court.

“What I wrote is what I believe the evidence shows, and what I expect jurors would perceive and believe,” Hur said. “I did not sanitize my explanation. Nor did I disparage the president unfairly.”

At the same time, Donald Trump, in the middle of his own legal battles, was cranking up his campaign war machine. Democrats scrambled to undo the damage the Hur report piled on top of what everyone in the country but their Party and pliant media had known since before the 2020 elections - we were being sold an animatronic, desiccated sack of carbon.

For example, the New Yorker jumped into it just days after Hur's appearance to translate what the special counsel had really said.

WHY ROBERT HUR CALLED JOE BIDEN AN "ELDERLY MAN WITH A POOR MEMORY"

Here, I thought that's why Hur had called him exactly that. What's to explain?

But in the panic that followed, the beclowning began in earnest, and red-nosed liars assured us this was the sharpest, smartest, bestest Biden ever and up yours if you didn't believe it.

'Cheap fakes' all blew apart in the debate debacle in front of God and everybody.

It did beg the question, who had been running the running the country?

The question got asked more often and louder as Biden - never one for being seen for extended periods, to begin with, and known for his truncated 'work' schedule...

Joe Biden’s time as president was truly a sleeper.

Biden, 82, took more time off than any other US president in modern history, spending 577 of his 1,463 days in office – or 39% of his presidency — on vacation, according to shocking new data compiled by the Republican National Committee.

The average American — who gets 11 paid vacation days a year — would have to work 52 years to rack up as much down time as Biden scored in his four years.

 - basically fell off the face of the Earth in the waning months of his presidency, except when word of pardons would spew from the White House.

Where tf was the president?

I DIDN'T SIGN THAT

The last few months were a macabre joke being played out on the country. Everything from Biden declaring the Equal Rights Amendment being ratified and now in force to the shadowy palace eunuchs who'd been running the White House for four years shoveling what last billions out the door they could before those doors slammed shut as they were forced to exit.

The Trump team swept in like avenging angels. I know for a fact the evil deviants who form the opposition weren't ready for just how well prepared the Trump team was when they started taking names and kicking ass. They deflected incoming fire almost before it was launched as if they knew what every counter move was going to be.

Some people use adversity as a learning experience. Trump has used the last four years to write the masters course on it.

On the outside, interested parties started digging into how deep the rot went inside the POTATUS White House in the quest for answers to 'who.'  Who was running the White House? How far gone was Biden for how long?

A clue to that puzzle was potentially exposed when something called The Oversight Project started combing through signatures on official White House documents.

Their evidence suggests that there aren't that many pieces of paper that Joe Biden ever put a pen to himself. The mechanicals were signing things most of the time.

The majority of official documents signed by President Joe Biden allegedly used the same autopen signature, reinvigorating concerns over the former president’s mental acuity and if he "actually ordered the signature of relevant legal documents," a report published by an arm of the Heritage Foundation found.

"WHOEVER CONTROLLED THE AUTOPEN CONTROLLED THE PRESIDENCY," the Oversight Project, which is an initiative within the conservative Heritage Foundation that investigates the government to bolster transparency, posted to X on Thursday.

"We gathered every document we could find with Biden's signature over the course of his presidency. All used the same autopen signature except for the announcement that the former President was dropping out of the race last year. Here is the autopen signature," the group claimed on X, accompanied by photo examples.

It is pretty unsettling thinking about it. Bad enough it was Jake Sullivan or Susan Rice or Valerie Jarrett or Victoria Nuland playing Wormtongue at any given moment (not Blinken - he doesn't have the cojones). But one would always think they could shake the mushroom awake long enough to have him scribble on a piece of paper.

To think there may have been, could have been, or even might well have been one of these anti-American slimeballs blithely signing as the President of the United States and usurping that power is beyond ghastly.

And for things like 'preemptive' pardons going back over a decade? For no specified crimes - just a Get-Out-of-Jail-Free card?

WTF even are those?

You knew Trump was going to throw a bomb into the middle of this the second he could.

Ed broke down Trump's late-night 'null, void, no good pardons' declaration this morning.

I will defer to his legal expertise - I only play the comedy relief here at HotAir - but I do believe there's always method to Trump's madness, though it may be difficult to discern until the initial smoke clears.

I'm guessing this is a shot across the bow in two ways. First, it has to be absolutely delicious to know that the Adam Schiffs and Liz Cheneys of the auto-pen pardons got up this morning and pooped their drawers.

I mean, DELICIOUS.

There will be bluster and bravado and lots of saber-rattling about the sanctity of the pardon process, but you can bet your bippy the worst people on earth are wondering just a little bit if maybe their smug 'got away with it' certificate isn't a little less solid today.

And that's worth its weight in gold. Let them sweat.

The other point is that this validates the findings big time, and what does that do is add fuel to the fire about Biden's cognitive faculties.

The debate isn't that autopen is null and void for these things - it isn't, based on a 2005 Obama ruling.

The debate is whether POTATUS was aware of any of it.

That's a horse of a different color.

And Trump isn't going to let go of that one, not in a million years.
