The start of this is going to sound like the intro to one of those truly awful old stand-up jokes.
You know, the ones that always start like, "So, a priest and a rabbi walk into a bar..."
Only this is a tale of two campaigns and the commemoration ceremonies of the ghastly events of September 11th, 2001.
At Ground Zero yesterday, everyone showed up - both POTATUS, Kamala, Trump, J.D. and all the assorted luminaries associated with that day and with New York itself.
There was a very nice moment between the Trumpster and Harris.
Trump even patted her hand before he let go. It was a kind of cute and totally appropriate, gentlemanly gesture.

I loved it on both their parts.
Now, being Kamala was saddled with the geriatric dementia patient who was lucky to be upright for any length of time at all, it wasn't surprising to see the duo slide out long before the ceremonies were close to being concluded.
Got the photo op and bailed?? Grrrr https://t.co/NR7heb1SfR

(I guess we should be thankful he went out under his own steam - no one wants an annointed President Harris)
Without @zgazda66’s quick thinking eight years ago today, the elites would still be fully in charge. pic.twitter.com/FE4iAYqEB2

Anyhow, they skipped early, alright, and probably just as well, because a 9-11 firefighter's widow reading names at the time was fixin' to embarrass POTATUS and the Veep. Or would have, had they hung around.
Lucky thing the two aren't big on schmaltzy sentiments like honoring dead heroes.
Widow of 9/11 Fire Chief killed in terrorist attack CALLS OUT Joe Biden during her speech:
— Townhall.com (@townhallcom) September 11, 2024
"The elected officials here today show their respect and reverence to the families on September 11th—or, in our president's words, 'Do 9/11.' Quite a flippant remark."
Wow. pic.twitter.com/ZYsgWpL6YL
WOOF
I felt the heat from the burn all the way here in Pcola.
Her ire came from Biden's insouciant answer to a question the day before:
The wife of a Sept. 11 victim criticized President Joe Biden during the New York ceremony marking 23 years since the attacks after he told reporters the day before that he would be going to New York and would be “doing 9/11.”
And Trump's the only oaf, right?
In any event, they skyed out while Trump and J.D. made the rounds.
From there, it was on to Shanksville, PA, for the memorial ceremonies for the valiant passengers on Flight 93 who sacrificed their lives while saving Washington from God knows what sort of additional catastrophe.
AMERICANS
Biden made headlines last night playing the clown during the time on the ground there when, after swapping hats, he was challenged by an attendee at one of the events to put the hat on he'd swapped.
This is charming. It is also telling. Biden has spent years telling us that Trump is a deep threat to the Republic, a Hitler-in-waiting. He doesn't believe that. He's been lying. If he truly thought that, nothing -- not even politics -- could make him put on that hat. https://t.co/Psqh5RrPUT

People are speculating he really hates Kamala and is willing to burn the whole campaign down while acting the doddering fool.
I don't know that he's capable of constructing so devious a plan - I think it's probably hard for him to find his dino jammie pants every afternoon - but this surely is not helping her, and that's hilarious.
But video emerged today that provides a stark illustration that maybe it doesn't matter what Joe did. Proof is in the pudding that people cannot abide either one of them and are more than willing to be obvious about it.
I guess both campaigns had made plans to stop at the same little Shanksville fire department's gathering - I'm assuming those guys had been some of, if not the first, into the field after the airliner crashed - to visit with the firefighters and families.
Judging by the reception, that was a mistake.
HO BOY
You have to watch - it's cringe city as Joe and Kamala were the first to walk into the station...

...and Trump pops in later.
The euphoric "There he is!" and the eruption of applause - holy smokes.
That woman with the dark braids looks up and disgustedly looks away. MAN.

That's brutal.
ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL
Maybe that lady is one of those tired working-class types who's sick of being told she's too stupid to know how well off she really is.

Whatever the beef, it's clear as day who it's directed at.
The tale of two receptions sure lends even more credence to Salena Zito's anecdotal postcards from the backroads, not to mention those spontaneous man-on-the-street interview responses that keep astonishing the likes of CNN and CBS.
Trump might be a loud-mouthed oaf to disdainful elites, but to more and more and more people across the country, the kind of AMERICANS who volunteer and break bead with friends and family in firehouses, he's their oaf.
And they will let you know it.
This was just damn delicious.
