Hello, Wisconsin! Cheeseheads Seem to Be Waking Up

I found my first link when I was doing the headlines this morning and talk about your cheerful blast!

I was wondering what had hit these people, these Biden-voting people, and turned them into normies again. One of the wokest states in the union went ahead on Tuesday and voted AGAINST Zuckerbucks (!) AND letting anyone other than election officials touch anything to do with running an election.

I mean, holy crap.

...Wisconsin voters approved two constitutional amendment proposals Tuesday that prohibit private money from being used to conduct elections and mandate only legally designated government officials may administer elections. This makes Wisconsin the 28th state to ban “Zuckbucks”-style electioneering and the second to do so by constitutional amendment.

According to preliminary results, Question 1 is projected to pass. That amendment stipulates that private donations and grants may not be applied for, accepted, expended, or used in connection with the conduct of any primary, election, or referendum.” Question 2 requires that “only election officials designated by law may perform tasks in the conduct of primaries, elections, and referendums. It was also approved by voters, according to The New York Times.

During the 2020 election season, nonprofits including the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) received hundreds of millions of dollars from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. These “Zuckbucks” were poured into local election offices in battleground states around the country to change how elections were administered.

Among other things, these funds went to help expand unsupervised election protocols including mail-in voting and ballot drop boxes. To make matters worse, the grants were heavily skewed toward Democrat-majority counties, essentially making it a massive, privately funded Democrat get-out-the-vote operation.

How did this happen? Biden took the state by a little over a point (a tad over 25,000 votes) but, according to CNN, tight presidential races are the norm there.

Governor Tony Evers, a controversial uber-progressive who, nonetheless, easily won his reelection campaign in 2022, now seems to be losing what little luster he had left. He filed a brief with the WI Supreme Court as residents went to the polls, asking them to reinstate absentee ballot drop boxes that are not located near an election clerk's office. I guess he likes them scattered willy-nilly all over town the way they used to be.

Gov. Tony Evers is asking the state's Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that banned absentee ballot drop boxes beyond election clerks' offices.

Evers filed a brief the same day as the state's presidential primary, asking the court to overturn a 2022 ruling that limited the location of drop boxes in Wisconsin. The brief was filed in a case the court recently agreed to hear.

“All across our country, election officials have chosen to use drop boxes to ensure that all eligible voters can freely cast their ballots. And they’ve done so while keeping ballots safe and secure,” Evers said in a statement.

...In July 2022, the state Supreme Court in a 4-3 ruling banned voters from using drop boxes to return absentee ballots. In September, a Waukesha County judge banned election clerks from filling in missing address information on absentee ballots. A lawsuit filed in July by the Elias Law Group on behalf of two liberal-leaning organizations and a Dane County man seeks to undo both rules.

Even as WI voters were passing pretty conservative and commonsense election amendments in a direct rebuke to the progressive governor's agenda, Evers was planning another blow against forces on the right.

He whipped that veto pen out, and little girls' dreams of glory on the field of athletic competition went "poof."

That'll show little Miss Cindy Lou Who who's who.

Wisconsin governor vetoes transgender high school athletics ban

Gov. Tony Evers said in his veto message that such legislation “harms LGBTQ Wisconsinites’ and kids’ mental health."

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers vetoed a bill Tuesday that was passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature to ban high school transgender athletes from competing on teams that align with their gender identity.

Evers had promised to veto the bill ever since it was introduced. Democrats did not have the votes to stop its passage in the Legislature. He vetoed it in the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers, transgender advocates, the mayor of Madison and others.

It seems to me progressives are never big on reading the room when their ideology and sense of empowerment get in the way of actually doing what their constituents want. Because yesterday, Wisconsinites were sending a pretty clear signal that they don't relish the thought of rule by progressive any more.

There was a big shake-up in liberal Wausau when the Democratic mayor, who made sure that Wausau would be "more welcoming" - she's not referring to new residents moving in from, say, Illinois, mind you - to the new residents.

"...I think the number one job of our cities is to make sure that we are exuding that welcoming behavior that we would like to see..."

But worrying her about making a bad impression because there weren't enough, say, Pashtun interpreters - yeah, THOSE newcomers (She made apps available to city residents so they could chat with these new arrivals.).

Well. She lost her mayor's gig and handily.

Imagine that.

SO NOT FRIENDLY

Stunning when you think of how Ms Rosenberg had her finger on the pulse of the progressive movement.

There was much wailing and moaning in the liberal media about the loss of "a rising Democrat" and a palpable sense of panic in the ranks.

Katie Rosenberg lost the Wausau mayoral race, in a defeat that could indicate trouble for President Joe Biden's reelection chances in Wisconsin.

Rosenberg had just under 48% of the vote in Wausau as of 9:48 p.m., while challenger Doug Diny had just over 52%. Slightly over 10,000 people voted in the mayoral election at that time.

The loss could represent trouble to come for Democratic candidates later this year, and in particular, Biden.

Au revoir, Katie. Don't let the drop box hit you in the twerk on your way out.

The RCP polling average has Trump ahead by a whisker. Sure, it's early yet, but a day like yesterday and a governor like Tony Evers give one hope that it's a self-sustaining movement in the right direction.

It makes you smile watching it happen.

There are actually some purple-state people who won't sit back and take it.
