Thing o' beauty: Harvard professor reams corporate wokesters on CNBC

Wow! What a moment THIS was. There’s a whole lot of truth packed into that minute and twenty-two.

I couldn’t believe it, myself.

Then I saw it had created quite a stir with someone else who’s a little more prominent than moi…

…which caused its own uproar, as everything Musk does seems to do lately.

Elon Musk declares ‘cancel culture needs to be canceled,’ Twitter users cheer: ‘Free all the banned accounts’
One supporter said cancel culture needs to be ‘defunded’

…Musk tweeted, “Cancel culture needs to be canceled!!” in response to a clip from CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

…Many commentators rejoiced at Musk’s tweet, praising it or offering their own ideas about what should be done going forward.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton tweeted, “Defund cancel culture. Billions behind it, including tax dollars.”

The only thing missing was the celebratory cannon fire of the 1812 Overture playing in the background.

It turns out the tweet contained a snippet of a longer Squawk Box interview that’s really interesting in its mix of anti-Woke, NBC corporate blather, and politically correct speech. I’ve made sure to include it below.

Arthur Brooks, American Enterprise Institute president and Harvard professor, joins CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box’ to discuss Elon Musk’s management of Twitter and the social media company’s impact on discourse in America.

For example, Kernan makes a legit point that snarling hordes from both sides can come after you for making what, under normal circumstances, would be a reasonable argument.

Kernan: “I’ve never heard the Nazi word used so many times. Or white supremacy used so many times. If I defend Elon Musk…or…or…FREE SPEECH, that’s what I start hearing. When did I become a white supremacist? It’s not right. People should reign it in but they’re not going to…”

Brooks: “Well, we have to disregard it. The most important thing to keep in mind is that something like 15% of Americans are actually involved on Twitter. A very small percentage of them are producing the overwhelming amount of tweets about politics, but it gets disproportionate coverage because it’s so outrageous…”

But then Kernan goes off the rails into corporate CYA as he gets into the Twitter vs Apple brouhaha. Good grief, dude.

“Apple seems to appease the CCP at time. I don’t know…they made some move recently to…I don’t know…disallow something that played into the hands of censors there or something…”

OH, COME ON. “Appears to appease“?! Is NBC worried about jeopardizing Chinese broadcast rights for something again? What a mealy-mouthed white-washing of what Apple literally has done to the Chinese COVID protestors! Do you read a paper, Kernan? You “don’t know”?

Okay, LeBron.

Golly, that’s maddening – and complete fiction.

The larger point is still there to chew on, however – that words were spoken over liberal airwaves baldly stating corporations should ignore their tiny fraction (admitting the number in itself was a concession) of activist employees, get back to doing their business, and not be IN everyone else’s business. People are sick of being bullied and pressured to conform to the demands of a minuscule minority’s victimhood syndrome of the moment.

I wonder if NBC brass was paying attention?
