A new video obtained by Pro-Life Wisconsin shows employees of Affiliated Medical Services — an abortion mill in Milwaukee, Wis. — standing outside the clinic, laughing and dancing, about the time a woman injured in a failed abortion is wheeled away in an ambulance. The video, taken by a 40 Days for Life prayer warrior, also captures his conversation with the calloused employees, in which they tell him to “shut up” and “lucky it isn’t you in the hospital.”

No, what’s heart-breaking is that some poor woman — who had probably been promised that an abortion would solve the problems she faces — that night found herself in an ambulance, possibly facing death and without the comfort of holding her baby in her arms. (Compare that to the story of Stacy Crimm.) Abortion advocates say they just want a woman to have choices — but, except in formal disclaimers, how often do you hear them talk about the risks of abortion to the mother? Nor am I just talking about the physical risks. The emotional aftermath of abortion is rarely discussed — but would surely be a potent deterrent to young women who think an abortion will ease the pain and sorrow they feel.

Pro-Life Wisconsin put it this way:

“Those who lobby for abortion’s legality claim that if abortion were made illegal, women would have to resort to dirty, back-alley abortions. … But the reverse has actually happened: [A]s was sadly illustrated with Kermit Gosnell’s “House of Horrors” abortuary in Philadelphia, the dirty, back-alley abortions are legal and no one is watching.

“This is at least the third time this year an ambulance has arrived at AMS after a botched abortion; sidewalk counselors recorded two separate ambulance visits on April 8,” PLW continues. “Abortion facilities in Milwaukee are not subject to health inspections. Some days the smell of death — blood and flesh — can be smelled wafting out of AMS when the staff open the doors.

“AMS has been the site of 40 Days for Life for three years now. Sidewalk counselors and prayer warriors are present at AMS year-round as well. 40 Days vigilers were in front of AMS when this occurred,” it concluded. “Women have been taken to Columbia St. Mary’s after botched abortions, forcing a Catholic hospital and staff to clean up the abortionist’s mess.”

My guess is, the Catholic hospital staff is willing to help in that case, knowing the need for healing in multiple senses. But it doesn’t change that abortion advocates — so keen to invoke “women’s rights” — would be far more believable in their supposed attempt to help women make a wise choice if they made a little more effort to paint a full and realistic picture of the long-term potential consequences of abortion.
