High unemployment, high national debt, lousy housing numbers and high gas prices aside, it’s fun to watch the clock run out on Barack Obama’s first term as president. A new iPhone application — the “Obama Clock” — now ranks as the No. 1 reference app. Earlier today, it was No. 2 behind National Geographic’s World Atlas, but the app’s individual web page suggests it surpassed that old standby, at least for today.

The clock serves as “a countdown to either Barack Obama’s second inauguration or his final days as President of the United States.” More importantly, it downloads and updates important voter metrics: the president’s approval rating, the size of the public debt, the unemployment level, the cost of gasoline and the housing price index.

The man behind the application says it owes its popularity primarily to conservatives who like to revel in the president’s dismal numbers — and adds that his leftist mother and friends aren’t at all happy with him for creating it in the first place. The Daily Caller reports:

Liberals don’t like the app because it shows Obama’s numbers trending down, said Jeremy Ross, even though his app just publishes publicly available data. The app can also be used to display the same stats on future GOP presidents.

Ross, a California aerospace engineer, cut his sleep time down to 5 hours per day to develop the app, which users rate at 4.5 out of 5 stars.

“Most of my friends are very left and strongly discouraged me from starting this app,” he said. “My best friend hates this app.” Ross added that his own mother, also politically liberal, isn’t happy about it.

But you’d think folks on the left would be lining up to buy it. After all, the president is about to unveil a spectacular plan to spur job creation and boost the economy, right? Should be fun to watch the numbers move in The One’s favor after he does!

Just kidding. It must be pretty tough to take when even an impartial piece of technology tells a chilling tale about the failure of the president of Hopenchange. It must be even tougher to take when the design of that impartial piece of technology takes after Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” poster. Art might mimic life, but numbers never lie.
