In yet another of those increasingly frequent moments when “progressivism” means its precise antonym, a group of college students in Missouri are testing out a new and exciting theory of social organization: Segregation.

According to a report in The College Fix, University of Missouri students organizing a “die-in” to protest recent events in Ferguson recently won the honor of having a variety of classes effectively cancelled in order to allow maximum participation. There is just one problem – the protests organizers humbly requested that “only people of color” be allowed to join in the demonstrations.

“During the demonstration we will hold a ‘die-in’ in the student center. We are asking that only people of color be the ones to do so,” event organizers stated in an email obtained by The College Fix. “We are asking non-people of color to stand holding hands in solidarity.”

“The ‘die-in’ is meant to represent black bodies that are killed unjustly. It was requested that others stand in a circle holding hands,” student Ebony Francis told The College Fix in a telephone interview.

Tuesday afternoon’s rally attracted hundreds of students and faculty and lasted more than 90 minutes as participants vented frustration over the decision by a grand jury to not indict Police Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of Michael Brown.

A few of the students who The College Fix spoke with were perturbed that the classes for which they are paying exorbitant sums to attend were cancelled in order to hold political demonstrations in which they are not allowed to participate. But they are just a few eggs that have to be broken on the long march toward Social Justice.

One protest organizer, according to The Columbia Missourian, apparently made it very clear that white participants were not welcome at the demonstration. She also included, apparently, minority students who do not share what she deemed to be appropriate views that students of color should uniformly share.

Senior Naomi Daugherty, the student leader for MU4MikeBrown, gave a “white privilege checklist,” citing instance after instance in which she and others feel that whites have advantages over minority races in America.

“If you aren’t afraid to bring children into this world because they might be killed for being black, you have white privilege,” she said.

In this case, “diversity” is understood to mean perfect homogeneity. How progressive.

One would think that these student protest organizers, if they were truly interested in anything other than nursing a grievance, would take a page from successful civil rights movements in American history, all of which welcomed diversity. It only makes sense if the goal is, as they say, racial equality before the law. These students are likely fostering more racial antipathy with their embrace of antagonism and separatism. Maybe that’s their goal.
