Remember that time when Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) made a comment about Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker for which she was compelled to apologize? Let’s refresh your memory.

While addressing a women’s group in Wisconsin, Wasserman Schultz attempted to hammer home the “War on Women” meme by making a series of crude analogies to domestic violence. She told a room full of supporters that Walker had “given women the back of his hand” and is “grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back.”

Her office issued a statement apologizing for the remarks just hours after they were publicized by local news outlets. “Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and the Congresswoman was by no means belittling the very real pain survivors’ experience,” the statement read.

If she thought this line was so inappropriate, why had been saying it to anyone who would listen? It turns out that Wasserman Schultz used the same line at least once before, but in reference to Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

“It’s Charlie Crist, the Democrat, that had my back,” the DNC chairwoman said on August 26 at an event for the Democratic Party’s gubernatorial nomination. “Rick Scott has given us the back of his hand.”

Chances are there were a couple other occasions when Wasserman Schultz said this line, once which she found totally inappropriate and unacceptable only after it was captured on camera, publicized, and led to a significant backlash.

I’m beginning to think that apology wasn’t all that sincere.
