Omar Fateh, the Democratic Socialist who has a depressingly solid chance to become the next mayor of Minneapolis, is as predictably anti-gun as his Democrat (we call 'em "DFL" here in Minnesota) colleagues. No surprise there. For example, he's four square behind Governor Walz's proposal for a special session of the state legislature, ostensibly to try to jam down an "assault weapon" ban:
Let’s finally address the easy access to weapons of war in our communities, ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, and put real funding behind violence prevention programs.
The special session is dead on arrival - the state House is tied, and the DFL's one vote lead in the Senate includes three or for Senators from purple districts with lots of gun owners.
But no matter - like all "democratic socialism", it's about saying the right things, not doing them.
And while his position has, er, evolved on defunding the police, during the Minneapolis riots he was one of the state legislators who agitated to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department - a measure that was pummeled at the polls in a citywide referendum in 2021, most brutally in the high-crime, heavily Afro-American districts like Fateh's.
Which doesn't mean his position on the police isn't, well, just a little bit bonkers:

Fateh is, of course, a proponent of the sort of "violence interruptor" programs that have been nearly useless in (checks notes) interrupting violence, but have excelled at transferring taxpayer money to the political class with no accountability whatsoever.
VIDEO of the moments leading up to the downtown Minneapolis mass shooting and as shots rang out. Tons of cops all around, to no deterrent effect.

Also, not a violence interrupter in sight, which is the opposite of Asst Chief Katie Blackwell's comments this morning. pic.twitter.com/olYcuQRIb2
So Fateh is a little soft on crime.
Well - most crime. Fateh's campaign office was vandalized last week:
“The senator has received a steady stream of hate, racial, and Islamophobic slurs, and violent threats to the campaign email, his Senate email, and across social media,” the campaign reported.
In a statement, Fateh said his campaign “will not be deterred by hate speech and vandalism. We will not back down to Islamophobia. I will not be bullied or intimidated.”
Minneapolis police acknowledged to MPR News that a report on the incident had been filed. In an update Thursday afternoon, police said that officers responded to the building on Cedar Avenue on Wednesday and saw the graffiti.
“MPD is investigating and has referred the incident to the MPD Behavioral Threat Assessment Team,” the department said. No one has been arrested.
I'll let you be the judge whether this looks like actual threat, or the work of a tagger who's not a very capable writer:
This week our campaign office was vandalized with an Islamophobic threat. We will not be deterred by hate speech. The people of Minneapolis are demanding change. I'll continue fighting for it. Because threats that are "no joke" are truly the serious ones.
But for purposes of argument, let's assume the threat is legitimate. Because Fateh sure seems to.
Or at least he's fundraising on it - in his own campaign's words...:
In light of the recent threat to our campaign HQ and a steady escalation of death threats, we're increasing safety measures to protect Omar Fateh, his family, & our campaign. We need to raise $10,000 more than we'd planned to cover critical security needs. https://t.co/xTAhLLy7WU pic.twitter.com/HCpzslgOXR

So - you shouldn't expect a cop to show up when you call 911 (or at all, depending on when you ask him), and you darn well better not see to yoour own defense.
But he's gonna need security. Presumably armed.
Just so you know where you stand, peasant.
