I was thinking the other day - if someone wanted to go after the United States, would there be a better time than right now? When not only can the nation not agree on who belongs in womens' restrooms or whether pre-born babies should be protected - things that have been too obvious for serious discussion throughout all human history - but whether it's right or wrong to murder people you disagree with.
As Dennis Prager says, in some key ways the US has never been more divided. When the nation split over slavery and its side-effects before the Civil War, the Confederates formed a government that wasn't that different than the one in DC. The mind boggles to think what breakaway nations led by Kathy Hochul, Gavin Newsome and Zohran Mamdani would look like.
Now, you have to figure terrorist groups are always planning terrorist attacks. It's in the name, yo?
And sure enough, terrorism hasn't gone away, even though half the country thinks the only real terrorist has orange hair and golfs a lot. Al Quaeda hasn't gone anywhere:
The U.S. National Counterterrorism Center said on Friday that recent calls by al Qaeda for attacks against the United States showed the group's enduring threat to the country.
Al Qaeda and its Yemen-based affiliate, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) "are likely seeking to leverage their media publications and global conflicts, particularly where there is U.S. support or military involvement, to inspire potential attackers," it said in a memo to law enforcement.
That whole "supporting Israel" thing isn't going over well among those who, well, don't:
In June, Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki, leader of al-Qaida in Yemen, released a 34-minute video in which he called for jihad against the U.S., including the assassination of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
This video emerged after U.S. officials reaffirmed their support for Israel.
"There are no boundaries left after what has occurred — and continues to occur — to our people in Gaza," al-Awlaki said, making an open call to Muslims in the U.S. to seek vengeance.
"As an initial and decisive action, I call upon every Muslim living in the sinful, arrogant, and criminal United States — whether Arab, American, or of any other descent. The only thing that matters is that they are Muslims, followers of the Prophet Muhammad," he said.
Now, it's nothing we haven't heard before. 24 years ago, the predictions were actually right.

Given the nation's diametric split on so many things, it goes without saying that for some, the message isn't as important as the messenger:

So - is it another "abundance of caution" situation - more of the little murmurs of unrest that are constantly floating around a troubled world?
Is it a false flag designed as leverage to create a police state?
Is it the Jooooooz pulling the strings in DC?
Around this time 24 years ago, as they were still digging ithrough the rubble at the World Trade Center, the nation came together as it hadn't, really, since World War 2. I'd never seen anything like it in my lifetime.
And is it just me, or can anyone else imagine that a pretty significant chunk of our Congress, and a terrifyingly large share of the electorate, would maybe not cher, but certainly think the US had it coming?
It'd be a gamble, of course - betting that America's differences would make a response like the one after 9/11 impossible.
Is it just me, or is anyone else feeling a little hesitant on taking any bets on that?
