A cast of about 20 pretty bro-y guys gets together to drink Fireball, blow stuff up, and play Army all day, and the result is…truly delightful and moving.
It starts with an introduction to groom-to-be Dana Saint and his band of merry buds, many of whom have known each other since childhood and have the VHS footage to prove it. The grainy homemade action movies of the ’90s—jumping off garage roofs, simulated Mortal Kombat deaths— were mere preface to the HD masterpiece of their adulthood. Dana had a thing for Stallone back then, specifically in the Rambo role. He even owned the Rambo knife as a tween, which as far as I’m concerned, is a mark of a good, rough-and-tumble, risk-taking childhood of the kind that’s disappearing rapidly in the age of helicopter parents (and not the cool slow-mo kind of helo from “First Blood”).
The amount of work that went into this gift for their friend is mind-blowing. Logistics, details, supplies, staging, location scouting, weapons creation, not to mention post-production to bring you the video you’re about to watch. The result is utterly delightful, especially if you have any affection for “Rambo” and the action movies of the ’80s. Dana must be a hell of a guy. I’m sure someone at Salon will write a piece about how it’s actually representative of all that is wrong with society. But it was inspiring to watch all of them bring their skills and creativity to bear on this day they’ll all remember forever. It probably means they do a lot of other cool things for many other people in the rest of their lives. Congrats to the bride and groom, best wishes for their marriage, and here’s hoping he gets at least a tweet from Sly for this incredible homage.
Enjoy Rambro (It’s long for Internet video, and worth every minute): Observe a minor content warning for language.
