As the news hit Twitter this afternoon, Air Force One was taking President Obama back to Martha’s Vineyard.

Normally I’d assume surely the president knew about the beheading before we heard about it on Twitter, and therefore knew it had happened as he was boarding Air Force One. But this is President Obama, so…that is quite unclear. It appeared he and his staff had no idea what was going on in Ferguson the other night as they tweeted gleefully from a seaside soiree.
Reporters with Obama on the Vineyard have been given a travel/photo lid. We won't be hearing from Obama tonight. #Foley

Anyway, no statement tonight. Which, look, I’m not sure he’s going to make a difference by making a statement tonight, and I’m not sure I think anything this particular president is going to say (or do) is going to do much good anyway. So, we’ll see tomorrow.
Dana Perino is placing bets that seem…unsafe:

This sounds more likely:

One of the U.S. officials said President Barack Obama was expected to make a statement about the killing on Wednesday.
The U.S. officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the video by name.
