10:44pm Bill says, “Hillary put climate change at the center of American foreign policy….How do you square what I just said with what you heard about Hillary at the Republican convention? You can’t. One is true. One is made-up….If you win elections on the theory that government is always bad and will mess up a two-car parade, a real change-maker represents a real threat.”

7:32pm He traces her life through government program after government program to help children. He even described for the national TV audience Hillary’s water breaking for the birth of Chelsea. TMI.

“She’s insatiably curious. She’s a natural leader. She’s a good organizer. And she’s the best darned change-maker I ever met in my life…She always wants to move the ball forward. That’s just who she is.”

Coincidentally, the audience has hundreds of signs to wave saying, “Change Maker.”

7:26pm And how it took three times proposing. Finally, he bought a house she liked and said, “Now, you have to marry me.”

10:22pm And how she got involved in child welfare issues including exposing segregated schools in the South and trying to reform teenager boys being jailed with adults. And how the first time he proposed to her they were in Britain. “I asked her to marry me and she said ‘I can’t do it.'”

10:12pm Former Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton shares the personal story of how he almost touched Hillary Rodham for the first time. It was in law school. He came up behind her, reached out. But he didn’t touch her because he thought just maybe she was something special. He’s still at that tilted head, finger-wagging, lip-biting thing to show thoughtful sincerity.

9:58pm Ex-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright for Bill Clinton: “We need a leader with the experience and judgment to keep America safe…When Hillary served  as Secretary of State I watched her partner with President Obama to restore our country’s reputation around the world. She fought terrorism. She stopped the spread of nuclear weapons…Smart power in every corner of the world…

“She knows that safeguarding freedom and security is not like hosting a TV reality show. It is a complex, round-the-clock job that demands not only a steady hand and a cool hand but also a big heart.”

9:40pm Elizabeth Banks: As secretary of State Hillary “took the job because we needed someone to fight to make America and the world safe. Someone who’s tough and smart to sit on the other side of the table from Russia, from China, from Canada.” Seriously? Our strategic enemy Canada, our largest trading partner and closest ally?

9:34pm Ex-presidential candidate, ex-DNC chair, ex-governor Howard Dean is back. But since he’s been a champion of gun rights, he has to talk about healthcare. But he still says, “Guns are the ultimate health crisis.” And he too mentions ISIS. And he slipped in a fundraising plea for Hillary.

9:28pm Erika Alexander: “Hillary defies gravity.”

9:22pm Rep. Joseph Crowley is the first convention speaker to mention ISIS.

9:08pm NYPD retired Detective Joe Sweeney on Clinton’s help after 9/11: “She got the hospitals on board. She got us care. And she went after the EPA when they lied.”

9:06pm Debra Messing was rocked by 9/11 and impressed by the courage of first responders.

9:00pm Sen. Barbara Boxer: “We saw her leadership when as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton restored America’s standing in the world. You remember that!”

Actually, Babs, people don’t remember that. They remember Benghazi. They remember the fictitious video tale. They remember the Libyan war producing a failed state, now a training ground for ISIS and other terrorists. They remember her calling Syria’s president a moderate. They remember her pushing with Obama for the hasty withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq that produced ISIS.

“We have seen her toughness. And I know a little bit about toughness. The right-wing has thrown everything at her. And she’s still standing.”

8:48pm Lena Dunham: “Donald Trump would have us believe that our differences are more important than what unites us.”

8:44pm Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood: “The Planned Parenthood Action Fund trusts Hillary Clinton…Hillary has always been in Planned Parenthood’s corner.”

8:38pm And now for something completely different: Jimmy Fallon says Democratic Convention delegates have seen some moving moments. Monday night everyone chanted, “I’m With Her!” Unfortunately for Hillary Clinton, they were talking about Michelle Obama.

8:32pm Grieving Mothers of the Movement individually tell moving stories about the loss of their sons and implore other mothers to vote for Clinton in November.

8:22pm Politico is reporting now that in an interview Virginia Terry McAuliffe says he’s confident that after her inauguration Hillary Clinton will drop her opposition to the TPP trade agreement that she has campaigned against this year but supported previously. McAuliffe says there would likely be some adjustments on a few points, but she will support it after all.

8:16pm Terrorism update: There is none from the Democratic National Convention. Still no mention of ISIS, for instance. Maybe one reason Clinton’s favorables have sagged. (See Gallup Poll below at 7:26pm.)

8:08pm Oh, look! He has a political side. Eric Holder, the first attorney general censured by Congress, says he stands with Clinton. He says: “We must also come to realize that keeping our (police) officers safe, is not inconsistent with ensuring that those in law enforcement treat the people they are sworn to serve with dignity, with respect and with fairness….We need a president sensitive to echoes of Jim Crow…Hillary Clinton will be that president.”

7:34pm Chuck Schumer likes New York, endorses Clinton. He even raised his fist to show it.

7:26pm Oops! As Democrats in Philadelphia celebrate Hillary Clinton’s nomination tonight, Gallup releases a new poll: For the first time ever the average American views Clinton and Donald Trump exactly the same — 37% favorable and 58% unfavorable. Until this nomination week, Clinton’s favorables had exceeded Trump’s.

7:08pm Nancy Pelosi recalls the founding of the United States not far from where she stands. She introduces some female House Democrats to speak about how when women succeed, America succeeds.

7:04pm Clinton fundraiser and pal Terry McAuliffe talks of his long friendship with the Clintons, who drove through a snowstorm to his father’s funeral. “Now, that’s friendship!” says the Virginia governor. Hillary Clinton will be “a president to build our country up, not tear it down just for votes.”

6:58pm Hillary Clinton, who’s spent nearly a quarter-century seeking the Oval Office, sends a message to the podium. Not shocking but she says she will accept the party’s presidential nomination, but not until Thursday night.

6:54pm  Well, that’s it. America has its first female major party nominee, Hillary Clinton. Final Delegate Totals from the 57 states and territories: Clinton 2,842 Sanders 1,865. Sanders himself moved to make Clinton’s nomination unanimous. (Loud cheers.)

6:38pm We understand why Hillary Clinton agreed to a state roll call vote to let Bernie Sanders hear his name read many times on national TV. But give the country a break. And clearly many states did not get the memo: Hillary Rodham Clinton has dropped her middle name. As of South Carolina, Clinton 2,380  Sanders 1,528.

6:20pm Chuck Schumer was so very excited to see himself on the Jumbotron as Gov. Andrew Cuomo cast New York’s votes, 181 delegates for Clinton. Running total now Clinton 1,907, Sanders 1,211.

6:04pm Roll Call still going on with every state declaring what is allegedly unique about it: Birthplace of Obama’s mother (Kansas), Birthplace of the middle class (Michigan), deepest gorge in America (Idaho). As of Minnesota, it’s 1,457 for Hillary, 940 for Bernie.

5:28pm Roll Call of the states begins. Alabama 50 votes Hillary, 9 Bernie Sanders. Alaska 6 for Hillary and 14 for Bernie. Arkansas votes 10 for Sanders and 27 for Clinton. California 221 Bernie, 330 for Clinton.

5:12pm Nomination speeches underway. Then the Roll Call vote. Bernie, Hillary and that’s it.

5:06pm The Democratic National Convention got good ratings on its first night from Philadelphia, probably thanks to Al Franken and Sarah Silverman.

They gave Michelle Obama a slot and she endorsed Hillary. Bernie Sanders also spoke. And spoke. And spoke. And spoke. But he was the closer. He got on so late, prime-time was long past its due date. He re-spoke every campaign word he has ever spoken and the crowd was generally polite. ICYMI, here’s last night’s highlights.

Bernie endorsed Hillary again too, but some of his young revolutionaries may not be listening to his change of opinion about Hillary not being qualified to be POTUS. They booed her name Monday. This is the real world, reminded the senator who is a Bernie-come-lately-Democrat.

Night Two will be totally different. Bill Clinton will give his acceptance speech as First Gentleman. He’s still serving penance for Hillary not leaving him 18 years ago, and 15 years ago and 25 years ago and…. These are the occasions where his Arkansas accent returns full-force. So, have your translator handy.

Speakers tonight include a New York City detective, Mothers of the Movement, others with special challenges and, of course, Bill. He attended Monday’s session but spent much of it chatting with people sitting around him. You know, Bill.

Wednesday night we get Joe Biden and Mike Pence. No, check that. Hillary’s VP partner is another former governor, Tim Kaine of Virginia. Another boring old white guy from central politico casting.

Bernie Sanders is also in the house, at least for now. The crowd chants his name, in case he forgot it.
