Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has had enough. Since the Hillary Clinton email scandal first surfaced, she and her team of apologists have been bringing up Gen. Colin Powell, the Republican-ish former Secretary of State who, according to Clinton, was the Neil Armstrong of personal email use.
“Clinton did nothing different than what Colin Powell did,” was the constant refrain from Hillary’s defenders. Of course, that argument has been completely destroyed by the facts. Even lefty PolitiFact has generously described this argument as “Mostly False.”
Last Friday, the NY Times reported on the latest use of Powell as a fig leaf by Clinton. According to the Times, Hillary raised the stake on her scapegoating of Powell by claiming that Powell gave her the idea to use a private server int he first place.
Ed broke this story down on Friday.
Saturday night, Powell was asked about this latest development at a ritzy event in the Hamptons. Powell was ready with his answer and it was hardly corroborative. He told People Magazine:
“Her people have been trying to pin it on me,” Powell, 79, told PEOPLE Saturday night at the Apollo in the Hamptons 2016 Night of Legends fête in East Hampton, New York.
“The truth is, she was using [the private email server] for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did,” Powell added.
Why does the former diplomat believe this to be the case?
“Why do you think?”
Powell went on to use his trademark squishiness diplomacy by telling reporters, “It doesn’t bother me. But it’s okay; I’m free.” Let’s face it: while treading the red carpet at a fundraiser in the Hamptons, Powell wasn’t going too far with his criticism of Madame Clinton.
But, the message was delivered: Enough.
Let’s see if Hillary and her minions continue to use Powell as a fall-guy on her reckless, unauthorized use of a non-secure server for government use.
