George Zimmerman auctioning gun used to kill Trayvon Martin

George Zimmerman is auctioning off the gun used to kill Trayvon Martin, according to the New York Daily News:

The Florida neighborhood watchman who fatally shot unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in 2012 is putting the killer handgun up for auction — and hoping to fetch at least $5,000.

“I am honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American Firearm Icon,” Zimmerman wrote in his online description of the weapon. The perverted auction opens for bids at 11 a.m. Thursday.

“The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012 … Many have expressed interest in owning and displaying the firearm including The Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. This is a piece of American History,” Zimmerman wrote.

So, who’s the bigger douche: Zimmerman for auctioning off the gun that killed Martin, or the guy who’s wants to buy it?

Defending the principles our nation was founded on means sometimes being aligned with people who are loathsome and undeserving of our fervent advocacy. Promoting free speech means we must reluctantly defend the KKK and the New Black Panthers (not to mention Lena Dunham) and their right to freely express hateful and idiotic ideas.

And for those of us who scrutinized the mob mentality that went after George Zimmerman with torches and pitchforks over the shooting death of Trayvon Martin found ourselves in a similar situation. We defended the 2nd amendment.  We defended the Florida law that provided Zimmerman a defense against murder charges. We attacked the media for their lies while covering the racially-charged story.

But, if we were smart, we never defended Zimmerman as a human being, and thank God for that. Because since his acquittal on murder charges, Zimmerman has proven himself to be less than a role model. (Fusion)

But none of this makes him a murderer and none of it has anything to do with our God-given, constitutionally-protected right to bear arms.

So as the media, (and your liberal brother-in-law) try to box you in and suggest that this latest, distasteful news to re-litigate the murder charges against Zimmerman and implicate your defense of the 2nd amendment during that trial as some kind of enabling action that allowed a jerk like George to escape punishment, stand your ground.

Defending our rights means defending the rights of people we wouldn’t necessarily want to spend any quality time with… like your liberal brother-in-law.
