Hmm: Univision Anchor Quits Due to More Favorable Reporting on Trump

Something is happening at Univision with its political coverage and longtime anchor León Krauze up and quit over some decisions being made. At the heart of Krauze’s discontent is Donald Trump. Of course.

As though everything isn’t crazy enough, there is an anchor (ex-anchor now) who claims that Univision is covering Trump too favorably now and he isn’t having it. Corporate media employees don’t even bother to pretend they are interested in professional journalism, not American media and not even American-Spanish language media, apparently.

Democrats take for granted that Spanish language media will not favorably cover Trump. The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Democrats were alarmed that Univision corporate executives tagged along with the interview team to Mar-a-Lago. WaPo reminded its readers that when Trump ran for re-election in 2020, he said Univision is “a leftist propaganda machine and a mouthpiece of the Democrat Party.” Trump was right. Remember that Univision anchor who participated in the RNC debate with the FNC anchors? She was all DNC talking points in her questions to the GOP primary candidates. It was ridiculous.

Three years later, Trump is treating Univision and its new corporate owners like long-lost friends. He hosted a trio of its executives at Mar-a-Lago last week during an hour-long Univision interview that was notable for its gracious tone, starting with a question about how well he is doing among Latino voters in early general election polling.

Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, a friend of one of the executives, helped arrange the interview and was also in the room, according to multiple people familiar with the event.

“All you have to do is look at the owners of Univision. They’re unbelievable entrepreneurial people, and they like me,” Trump said in response to the question about Latino voters.

Trump’s ego wins every time.

The Democrats, being Democrats, are planning an ad campaign branding Trump as hostile to Latino interests, which means Latino voters. Democrats go to calling Trump a racist as a default position. Trump is gaining support with Hispanic voters, as well as other demographics, and Democrats are hitting the panic button with a little less than a year until Election Day.

Some of the journalists at Univision think the past week’s activities show that the new corporate bosses are more Trump-friendly.

The Democratic alarm further spiked two days later, when Univision advertising representatives told the Biden campaign that spots already purchased to run during the Trump interview in Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Florida had been canceled — owing to a heretofore unannounced policy about opposition advertising in single-candidate interviews.

Univision also canceled a booking with Biden’s Hispanic media director, Maca Casado, to respond to the Trump interview after it aired on the network’s late news broadcast, according to people familiar with the details, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

To be clear, Univision’s new advertising policy won’t allow Trump campaign ads during Biden interviews, either. Democrats don’t like fair play. Too bad, so sad. Democrats were no doubt counting on Univision to be a loyal supporter of Biden in the 2024 campaign cycle. So, the usual suspects are speaking out that fair coverage is not acceptable.

“The new ownership is essentially co-opting and kidnapping the soul and mission of what Univision has been up to now, and they are serving it up on a silver platter to Donald Trump,” said Maria Cardona, a political consultant and member of the Democratic National Committee. “It is going to mask the pernicious and dangerous politics that Donald Trump is going to implement if he becomes president again.”

Joe Biden has put the United States in more danger than any recent president in history. The open border alone is a national security risk.

Krauze issued a brief statement on X and then a longer one.

The anchor, León Krauze, wrote Wednesday on X/Twitter, “Very dear friends. I deeply appreciate all the affectionate messages I have received in the last few hours. I will soon publish a statement about my professional future.”

Univision issued a statement, too.

The company said in a statement, “TelevisaUnivision expresses our heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding contributions, expertise, and insightful analyses delivered by Leon Krauze throughout his tenure with our news division. We sincerely appreciate his dedicated efforts in empowering and informing Hispanic communities at both the national and local levels for over a decade. We extend our best wishes to Leon in all his future professional endeavors.”

Democrats are upset that the Univision interview with Trump at Mar-a-Lago wasn’t confrontational enough to suit them. Talk about saying the quiet part out loud. Democrats have been so sick with Trump Derangement Syndrome for so long that they can’t go back to normal political discourse. That goes for news anchors, too.
