Governor Abbott has ordered a concertina wire barrier installed along the Texas border with New Mexico. The Texas National Guard has been deployed to do the work to deter illegal immigration.

This barrier is to stop the flow of illegal immigrants going into El Paso. Abbott told an audience at the Manhattan Institute in New York City last month that this would happen. The border between the two states is necessary to stop illegal immigrants from crossing from Mexico into New Mexico and then walking back into El Paso.

“And so not only are we building border barriers between the border of Texas and Mexico, we’re also having now to build border barriers between Texas and New Mexico,” Abbott said at a Sept. 27 event hosted by the Manhattan Institute, a conservative-leaning think tank.

The barrier consists of two rows of wire strung between metal poles running through an urban area west of Interstate 10, near Mount Cristo Rey, a local landmark with a statue of Jesus atop a mountain peak.

Open borders Democrats railed against Abbott’s actions. This is my shocked face.

On Tuesday, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa and New Mexico Democratic Party Chair Jessica Velasquez issued a joint statement decrying the interstate barrier as a political stunt. They called for it to be removed immediately.

“This is the latest Operation Lone Star stunt funded by the working Texas families’ tax dollar that will result in environmental damage, community division and injuries to vulnerable migrants,” Hinojosa and Velasquez said in their statement. “It is clear that Gov. Abbott has no plans of addressing our broken immigration system head on, but instead add more fuel to the Operation Lone Star dumpster fire.”

The Democrats went on to say they believe those who come to America in pursuit of a better life, whether as asylum seekers or not, deserve humane treatment.

“Republicans everywhere think that harmful border stunts will serve as a distraction from the real issues facing working families in our country,” the statement said. “Texas and New Mexico Democrats condemn Abbott’s razor wire fencing along our state borders and call for its removal effective immediately.”

Funny. I think Abbott is doing all he can to “address our broken immigration system head on.” Immigration is a federal responsibility. Abbott has to act because Joe Biden will not. It isn’t a stunt to try to slow the steady stream of illegal immigrants crossing into Texas. Why don’t Democrats want their state to have a secured border to protect its residents?

Hinojosa and Velasquez should talk to Joe Biden about the immigration system. It’s his responsibility. They should be supporting Governor Abbott in what he is doing through Operation Lone Star. Democrats offer no solutions except to leave the border open and make it as easy as possible for illegal crossings. These are not people who want to legitimately be residents of the United States. They are not going through a legal port of entry. They are invading the United States, making their first acts illegal ones.

The New Mexico Republican Party supports the barrier and emphasized the need to keep out illegal immigrants, as well as fentanyl, drug traffickers and terrorists from coming into America. There are hundreds of thousands of gotaways inside our country now. We don’t know who they are or where they are. It is a national security threat, made worse by the latest terror activity in the Middle East. Hamas started a war with Israel eleven days ago. The number of illegal aliens on the terror watch list that have been apprehended crossing the border is at a historic high. These are dangerous times. The open southern border makes us less safe.

Joe Biden’s favorable rating in every category is well underwater. His handling of immigration issues and securing the southern border are rated very low. He doesn’t care. This is intentional. Governor Abbott does the job that Joe Biden will not do.
