DeSantis is a 'no' on the U.S. accepting Gaza refugees - 'They're all anti-Semitic'

Republican presidential primary candidate Ron DeSantis is out with a strong position against the United States accepting Gazans as refugees. It is a bold but necessary position to take.

One thing DeSantis said that is causing a case of the vapors among American media is that not all Gazans are Hamas but all Gazans are anti-Semitic. DeSantis is right to say that Arab states should take in Gazan refugees. It’s unclear how many of them there will be, given that Hamas is refusing them safe passage out of Gaza before the ground war begins with Israel. Israel has notified Gazans that a ground war is imminent as Israel vows to eliminate Hamas.

“If you look at how [people in Gaza] behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic,” the Florida governor said at a campaign event in Iowa.

“We cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees,” DeSantis told the audience.

Instead, he said “the Arab states” should take them in. “You don’t fly people and import them into the United States of America,” he added.

DeSantis, a longtime supporter of Israel, called for a “swift and lethal response” following Hamas’ attack last week.

American media is full of cable news hosts, political show hosts, and some Democrats who are aggressively pushing a whataboutism kind of defense for the residents of Gaza. Gazans voted for Hamas to take political leadership. In 2005, 21 Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip were unilaterally dismantled and Israeli settlers and its army evacuated from inside the Gaza Strip. Self-rule has been a disaster for Gazans. Hamas has built weapons and bombs instead of infrastructure. The Gaza Strip is a densely-populated hell hole by the hands of Hamas. The people lacked food and water and basic necessities long before last week.

The hard truth is that the Biden administration enables Iran at every turn. Biden came into office and signed away sanctions that the Trump administration placed on Iran to thwart its path to producing a nuclear weapon. Iran was severely limited in its oils sales to keep its coffers full. Iran now sells three times the amount of oil as it did when Biden took office in January 2021. Then Biden agreed to thaw $6B in frozen money that was placed in South Korea by the Trump administration. That was due to a prisoner swap and it emboldened the Iranians. An immediate result was the attack from Hamas to Israel. Hamas is a proxy for Iran. Iran funds terrorism. This isn’t rocket science. It is not hyperbole to say that Joe Biden has made the world a less safe place.

Biden and Democrats like to criticize Trump for working as he does with some nefarious men. Yet, Joe Biden is in bed with Iranian leaders and China. The Biden crime family grew wealthier from corrupt Ukrainian energy company money. Biden has no business being in the White House. He must be replaced in 2024.

DeSantis signed an executive order last week ordering charter flights to evacuate Floridians trapped in Israel. What about the Americans trapped in Gaza, one political show host asked DeSantis on Sunday morning. Good Lord. How naive.

From the CBS transcript of Face the Nation:

MARGARET BRENNAN: Is there any caution you would give to the Israeli military? Would you ask, for example, the Prime Minister to hold off until the five to six hundred Americans who are trapped in Gaza manage to get out?

GOV. DESANTIS: Well, look, I think that that’s something in terms of those that of course, you would have discussions with, we would be willing to do if I was president apply resources to be able to help any American who was either being captured or in harm’s way. I would note, I as governor of Florida have actually launched flights to bring Americans home from the war zone now. We’re going to have- the first flights landing in Florida today, we’re going to bring hundreds of people back from Israel to the state of Florida, and they’ve had trouble dealing with the federal government. So of course, that’s an important thing that you want to consider.

MARGARET BRENNAN Right? But there are five to six hundred Americans stuck in Gaza specifically. And let me ask you a little bit more about that, because the 2 million people who live in Gaza, half of them are under the age of 18. Let’s take a listen to something you said yesterday.

VO: GOV. DESANTIS: We cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees. I am not going to do that. If you look at how they behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-semitic.

MARGARET BRENNAN: I’m sure you know, all Arabs are Semites. But how can you paint with such a broad brush to say 2.3 million people are anti semitic?

GOV. DESANTIS: Well, first of all, my position is very clear. Those Gaza are refugees, Palestinian Arabs should go to Arab countries. The US should not be absorbing any of those. I think the culture- so they elected Hamas, let’s just be clear about that. Not everyone’s a member of Hamas, most probably aren’t. But they did elect Hamas.
There was a lot of- there was a lot of- there was a lot of celebrating of those attacks in the Gaza Strip, by- by a lot of those folks who are not Hamas. But if you look at their education system, this has been an issue for a long time. They teach kids to hate Jews, the textbooks do not have Israel even on the map. They prepare very young kids to commit terrorist attacks. So I think it’s a toxic culture. And I think if we were to import large numbers of those to the United States, I think it would increase anti-semitism in this country, and I think it would increase anti Americanism in this country. And that’s something after seeing those demonstrations pop up in our country, just with- with bloods still flowing amongst Israeli citizens over the weekend. You had people taking to the streets cheering on the barbarism of Hamas in our own country. That was a chilling thing to see. And I don’t think that that’s something that we should ever think is acceptable.

DeSantis is right. The reality is that Israel can not co-exist with a country with Hamas in control. Gazans are taught to be anti-Semitic. That can’t be allowed in the United States. Let their neighbors take them in.
