DeSantis slams “weak, spineless leaders” for Colony Ridge development of illegal aliens in Texas

The story published by the Daily Wire about the development called Colony Ridge in Texas was a real eye-opener. Not only was it shocking because it is a housing development that caters to illegal aliens but because of the campaign contributions given to politicians by the developer, including to Governor Greg Abbott.

Colony Ridge is in Plum Grove, Texas. Plum Grove is a small town in Liberty County and is north of Houston. As i wrote when that story came out, I had no idea the huge development that encourages illegal aliens to buy homes was there. I live in Houston. I write about illegal aliens crossing the border a lot. I do it not just because I live in Texas but because I believe that a country without secure borders is not a sovereign country. It is a national security issue besides a humanitarian crisis. The president’s top job is to protect the homeland and that includes securing America’s borders.

Colony Ridge has caught the attention of Republican primary candidate Ron DeSantis. He blames “weak, spineless leaders” for “permitting and facilitating sprawling developments to house thousands of illegal immigrants who have broken our nation’s laws.” The story is particularly alarming because Governor Abbott’s brand is as a border hawk.

Many U.S. congressmen from Texas have expressed concern, including Rep. Chip Roy. “I’m not in a position to fully articulate exactly what’s happening other than it is problematic and a continuation of these wide open border policies,” Roy said. Governor Abbott’s office has not responded to the Daily Wire’s request for comment.

The Republican Party of Texas passed a resolution calling on Governor Abbott to convene a special session to address Colony Ridge.

The resolution, which passed by a vote of 61-0, says a special legislative session must be convened in order to “prevent further settlement of illegal aliens in Colony Ridge and any other areas of Texas.” The power to call a special legislative session is with Abbott, who has already been urged by the state’s Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick to do the same.

The party’s resolution honed in on a number of specific concerns highlighted in The Daily Wire’s investigation of the development, noting that “the developer allows for illegal aliens to obtain loans to purchase land using Individual Tax ID Numbers (ITINs) instead of Social Security Numbers” and that Colony Ridge “has grown to an estimated 50,000 to 75,000 inhabitants and spans over 60 square miles.”

Titled “Resolution Calling for Action in Colony Ridge,” it also calls for Attorney General Ken Paxton to “initiate a full investigation into the development activities of Colony Ridge Land, LLC, and its possible connections to elected officials in the region.”

Paxton is uncertain of what action he can do right now. He said it is “completely insane that they can set up these villages with illegal immigrants.” His office may be able to investigate “deceptive trade practices.” He needs authority from the legislature to perhaps affect the financing or the financial aspect of the development.

As I said, it is troubling the campaign financial contributions the developer, William “Trey” Harris has doled out. Gov. Abbott has received a combined $1.5 million from Harris and his wife for his political campaigns. Congressmen from Texas and state representatives have received thousands of dollars in political contributions.

Besides the unlawfulness of a community that caters to illegal aliens, there is the threat of cartels taking charge of the area, maybe even create a no-go zone. Texas has enough problems, thanks to the Biden border crisis and the flood of illegal aliens into Texas. The state doesn’t need to turn a blind eye to communities that act as magnets to illegal aliens by helping them purchase a house in Plum Grove. The community has been building since 2015, perhaps earlier. Abbott became governor in 2015.

Governor DeSantis is right – it looks like a lack of will on the part of Texas politicians to stop it keeps the Colony Ridge development going. Do we think that this would be going on in plain sight in Florida with DeSantis as governor?
